COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This intensely dark Kulmbacher style lager has a superb malt complexity with the distinctive flavors and aromas of coffee, caramel and chocolate. A renowned smoothness and a creamy, tan head make it an all-time brewery favorite.

Draft. Among the pale pilseners at the downtown Chicago Kristkindl market is a keg of pale pilsener's evil twin. Pours with a hearty brown head over a body that looks solid black in a plastic cup, then shows brown highlights as I drink it. Kind of a black bread smell that’s not as prominent as a stout. Definite dark roast malts against a German hop profile. Leaves a taste at the back of the palate where bitterness and astingency are detected. Roast coffee taste, perhaps a note of pear, subdued by its "clean" lager finish. Brings up a bit of a burnt toast taste toward the end that may not be to everyone's liking, but I like its complexity.

Bottle at Sybarite Pig. American pint glass. Deep brown pour, opaque. Tan thick head. Very aggressive aroma of chocolate, coffee, and deep roasted malts. The taste is complex with coffee dominant, chocolate, caramel, roasted malts and nuts. Mouth is very smooth with a creamy finish. Aftertaste is sweet and slight bitter like coffee.

Dark black color. Medium head. Aroma is roasted coffee. Medium bodied. Deeply roasted malts. Chocolate is the predominate flavor, but there is a touch of coffee and nuts. Somewhat earthy tones as well. Slightly sweet. Somewhat porter like. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

The beer has a near black body with a soft, creamy, khaki colored head. The aroma brings dark chocolates, roast, charred malt, a bit of dark fruits, bread. Nice flavor. Easy to drink. Light to medium in body with moderate carbonation. A touch of molasses in the flavor as well. A solid example of the style. I would drink this again.

some acrid charcoal this brew is not heavy in the body except for some substantial foam. German pepper like hop character and sweetish creamy malt. a bit of coffee, anisette, and cocoa in the flavor. nice and not overdone.

Clear, very dark amber with a nice, but short-lived tan head, and dots of lace. Clean brisk malt with a bit of caramel grows through the palate to a carbonated bitter finish. Very straight forward with a big flavor that somehow lacks in richness (must be the 6% abv). Not a problem. It drinks well.

Bottle. Pours cola dark brown with red highlights -- head is cinnamon, fine-grained, and creamy. Nose is caramel, chocolate, and smoke. Extremely rich on the palate -- smoked espresso, sherry, and nutty notes with light carbonation. Round like a milk stout on the palate. This is excellent.
