Sprecher Black IPA contains seven varieties of malt balanced with a generous amount of predominately Cascade hops. This medium-bodied beer begins smoothly with roasty flavors thanks to the malts, and has a pleasantly bitter finish thanks to the hops. It is both a big beer and delicate one. Every sip will keep your palate engaged.

While this beer is beautiful to look at, with great lacing in the head, its taste does not deliver, as its bitterness overshadows any scent of grapefruit or citrus flavors at the end of the sip. This BIPA has a definite smokey flavor throughout, but really leaves a bad after taste. I would expect Sprecher’s to have a better product than this.

Dark chocolate/black.Good sized head, creamy foam, nice lacing. Aroma is hoppy with citrus, some sweetness, breadiness, maybe slight chocolate.Maybe some oxidation .B vitamins?- Later on. Taste starts off good/ok but ends on an astrigent burnt malt finish. With piney bittering.Seems overly roasty/burnt. KInd of almost tasteless until warming then hosp show can do without the abrubt finish. Medium/light bodied. This is ok but dont know why everybody seems to hate it.

Not the best. All things being equal, the deal-breaker was the burnt, ashy taste.

Bottle @ home picked up at Wilbur’s Foco. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a brown head without much retention. Weird bready, tangy, burnt, ashy, herbal, sort of spicy, unpleasant aroma. Bitter, burnt roasty, coffee, ashy/smoky, herbal, slight veggie flavor. Gross.

Bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma had roasted malts, chocolate, ash and some vague earthy hops. The flavor has dark roasted malts, ash, some earthy bitter hops with a dry bitter finish. Not much in the way of flavoring hops. This is not something I would revisit.

Pint on tap. Dark chocolate with a lasting creamy foam. Nose is coffee and earthy citrus zest. Flavor is caramel, citrus, coffee, cocoa and a finish with lots of resin. Medium body has low carbonation and is well balanced.

Aroma is earthy, light hops, faint chocolate. Pours a dark brown, almost soda-like. Tastes thin and watered down. Dull hops, very malty, slight chocolatey finish. Weird acidic aftertaste that burns the tongue and throat. Thin, overly carbonated palate. Very underwhelming and disappointing for a Black I.P.A. Downright awful. I honestly could use a chaser while drinking this! This is cheap for a reason.

Bottle. Poured clear dark brown with an average frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted earthy hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy over toasted dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This is just a good beer.

Bottle to snifter (thanks tmoney99). Looks good; pitch black with creme-colored lacing. Smells solid; hoppy and malty. Tastes smokey, roasty and malty...which would be fine it it was a porter. Mouthfeel is average. Misrepresented...and it costs them.

22oz bottle. Dark brown pour with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of roast, floral hops, and lighter coffee. Tastes of the same but on the thinner and somewhat watery side.
