2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma had roasted malts, chocolate, ash and some vague earthy hops. The flavor has dark roasted malts, ash, some earthy bitter hops with a dry bitter finish. Not much in the way of flavoring hops. This is not something I would revisit.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle 4/25/13 (Binnyís Naperville Clearance Rack)-62į in Shaker-Pours black with a big loose tan head. Aroma of malt, wood, smoke, and a little anise. Taste of malt, smoke, wood, and hops. This medium bodied brew is a mess. I was expecting more but disappointed.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Strong aroma is quite resiny with a citrus underpinning and a smoky note. It pours a beautiful warm sable with a thick, frothy and rather persistent light tan head. Flavor has a hoppy, woody core and a nice smoky tone - but not much else. Has a watered-down feel to it. Texture has only average body an fizz, and the smoky, hoppy finish is unpleasantly green-wood bitter. Too bad the flavor didnít match the tempting appearance, or this would have been a damned good beer. Well, better luck next batch.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
While this beer is beautiful to look at, with great lacing in the head, its taste does not deliver, as its bitterness overshadows any scent of grapefruit or citrus flavors at the end of the sip. This BIPA has a definite smokey flavor throughout, but really leaves a bad after taste. I would expect Sprecherís to have a better product than this.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark chocolate/black.Good sized head,creamy foam,nice lacing.
Aroma is hoppy with citrus, some sweetness, breadiness, maybe slight chocolate.Maybe some oxidation .B vitamins?- Later on.
Taste starts off good/ok but ends on an astrigent burnt malt finish. With piney bittering.Seems overly roasty/burnt. KInd of almost tasteless until warming then hosp show can do without the abrubt finish. Medium/light bodied. This is ok but dont know why everybody seems to hate it.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Not the best. All things being equal, the deal-breaker was the burnt, ashy taste.

1.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
Bottle @ home picked up at Wilburís Foco. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a brown head without much retention. Weird bready, tangy, burnt, ashy, herbal, sort of spicy, unpleasant aroma. Bitter, burnt roasty, coffee, ashy/smoky, herbal, slight veggie flavor. Gross.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pint on tap. Dark chocolate with a lasting creamy foam. Nose is coffee and earthy citrus zest. Flavor is caramel, citrus, coffee, cocoa and a finish with lots of resin. Medium body has low carbonation and is well balanced.
