3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nothing special. Poured a very mirky brown with a minamal head that dissipated quickly. Aroma had a few notes with bourbon, wet wood, ash and some malt. On the tongue you get sweet malt followed by some bourbon and finishing with a smoked dry finish. Mouthfeel is medium with a little too much carbonation.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
650 ml bottle, thanks to a trade with Adrien. Color is a cloudy Amber / orange color when held to the light. Aroma is bold oak, moderate bourbon, light toffee and maybe dark fruits
Flavor is shows a big amount of oak with a toffee and dark fruits. Hints of butterscotch. Lower carbonation with a slick / oily texture. Body is medium with a lasting oak finish. Yeah, overall it’s alright.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Reddish pink orange, a small thin white head....a slight bit of sediment. Smells really good. A really to-style aroma for a scotch ale. The oak is very present, a little caramel and toffee to top it off. I hate to say it but I get what I’d equate to how a puppy smells after it vomits in the taste. You know the smell fi you’ve ever had a dog. Taste is also more oak chips than oak barrel. Overly naked, spicy even with a lot of smoke. a little plastic at the finish.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
651 ml. bottle. Per the label Scotch style Ale aged in Oak Bourbon barrels. 11% ABV. Pours a thick, well retained, tiny bubbled ivory head, with extensive lacing, over an effervescent, moderately particle laden copper (SRM 18) body.....nose is hints of Bourbon from the barrel, light plum, raisin, no hops......taste is slightly sweet, light whiskey, hints of oak, smoke, dried fruit, including plum, raisin, no hops, balance to the malts and barrel......mouth feel, light body, high alcohol, moderate carbonation. This is a very light and simple take on the style of a heavy Scotch Ale. This is because it is overly dominated by the high alcohol and the barrel. Alcohol adds lightness and sweetness to a beer, but no complexity. This needs less alcohol and more malts to be true to the style. It is a partially failed experiment from that standpoint, but is a drinkable beer.. BJCP 7/2/13/4/6

12 oz bottle pours a muddy reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma is mostly caramel and molasses with just a hint of bourbon. Not overly sweet but you can taste the candy. Very smooth bourbon finish.
I bought 2 bottles when I saw it, should have bought a case. This is terrific!

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2015 Sprecher got Commando right !!! It’s cloudy non-see through consistency in bright light sets up for a satisfying special ops pallet experience. There’s nothing complex about the consistency of this brew. It just goes down with tactical precision makes you want to go into battle.
Barrel aged for TWO YEARS, this sublime brew will not be available again until autumn 2016. After resting for six months on my basement canning room floor, Commando has achieved a smoothness I am thrilled about. Compared to going straight from barrel to refrigeration, further aging around 58 degrees is a must to bring the best out in this amazing beer.
ABV is higher than stated I’d guess due to TWO YEARS in the barrel and further aging. Two 12oz bottles has more effect than any beer I’ve tried and that also goes for Sprecher TWO YEAR barrel aged Czar Brew Russian Imperial Stout. I usually drink one of each and I am completely satisfied.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This pours a murky brown color with a slight head. The aroma is full of oak and is boozy. The taste is sweet, malty, and extremely well-balanced. The aging in bourbon oak barrels add a nice depth to the taste to the brew that isn’t very powerful. Very nicely made that seems a little under-rated to me.

A really nice scotch ale. Lots of bourbon notes in this. Caramel too. Peat and booze in the aroma and flavour. Very nice.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bourbon nose with heavy hints of molasses and brown sugar. The taste follows the nose but with more alcohol. Very burning on the tongue. Long finish.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2014 bottle. A mucky brown color with some orange highlights and very little off-white head. The aroma is very grainy with some plum and prunes. The alcohol comes through on the nose, as well as a little bourbon. The taste is pretty much like the nose with quit a bit of residual sweetness. Maybe it's my predilection for Sprechers Root Beer but I get a hint of that as well. Some yeast ones as well. Has a fairly thin, well carbonated mouthfeel with a little sting.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Rays in Tosa. Hazy brown pour with no head. Aroma has butterscotch bourbon with some peat, later some berry. Taste is heavy sweet malt, butterscotch, vanilla and light fruit. Lowly carbonated, medium bodied, with alcohol. Finishes bourbon-y, sweet malty. Perhaps a bit old? For a bourbon scotch ale, a good example - perhaps a bit bourbon-y. 13.8
