Narnad (1454) - Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA - JUN 22, 2014
Pours a hazy deep copper color with a modest off-white head. Aroma has a light caramel malt nose but is quickly followed up by a musty dark fruitiness and a modest amount of vanilla and light bourbon imparted from the barrel aging. Flavor starts off with a smokey, caramel note first which quick transitions to a bourbon and vanilla character. Finish is slightly hot with alcohol creeping in. Body is modest with sharp alcohol bite and a bit of tongue puckering from the high alcohol. Overall an okay beer. The bourbon in this bottle is drowning out a lot the scotch ale flavors you would normally find.

nearbeer (3635) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 19, 2014
650 ml. Pours clear copper-brown with a lasting thin film of cream. Smells of chocolate, raisin and vanilla. Taste is earthy chocolate, lightly tart berry, vanilla and red wine. Finish has some toasted oak and peat that help to provide balance. Medium body has a mostly smooth, low-medium carbonation. A little boozy, but not overly so.

Headbanger (3255) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - MAY 13, 2014
22oz bottle 5/14/14 (Discount Liquors-Waukesha)-43° in Shaker-Pours a murky brown with a small ring for a head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, malt, and dark fruits. Taste of malt, toffee, bourbon, oak, and caramel. This full bodied brew has a lot going on but is a nice sipping kinda brew on a cold night.

tmoreau (2325) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - MAR 26, 2014
Shared bomber, poured to snifters showing a dark brown color, with a modest layer of light tan head foam, and spotty lacing. The nose was sweet & malty, with notes of caramel & molasses, a touch of dark grape, some peat, and ready alcohol. Medium bodied, with low carbonation, the flavor carried over similar notes, showed some warmth, but produced a bit of medicinal taste, with the texture thinning out toward the finish. An okay wee heavy.

No date on bottle, aged over a year at least. Pours a dark ruby red amber. Small, partly pasty, wispy tan head with good lace. Aroma finds smooth bourbon, oak, vanilla, some dark fruits, toffee,..sweet. Flavor adds some peat. Lighter Medium body. Still well carbonated. Pleasant alcohol warming, probably taken off a bit by the age. Light smokiness. Bit of sour woodiness in the middle. Bourbon barrel character compliments. Nose and initial taste are the highlights. Backend and finish leave me wanting. A bit watery.
