3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 HogTownHarry (5639) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - JUL 11, 2008
Bottle (1 litre). Shared with blankboy with gregclow, jerc, mabel & tupalev. Opaque black pour, small frothy tan head. Dry, deeply roasty aroma, medium sweet vanilla/bourbon aroma, anise and old leather. Taste follows, but oddly sour, the leather morphs into dry old molasses, and the booziness intrudes oddly - thin, slick mouthfeel, long bitter and burnt alcoholic finish - I’m not sure I like it all that much.
1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 Glouglouburp (5572) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 20, 2009
In short: An awful mess with too many problems to list
How: Bottle, swing-top 1L. Post-EBF tasting. Bottle by dmac. Congratulations Dave, in what might be the best beer week-end of my life you managed to squeeze in a turkey. Clap clap clap!
The look: Black body topped by a very small tan head
In long: Repulsive pop-corn and overripe fruits nose. Taste has a fucked up fruity sourness overwhelming the roasted malts. Grapes syrup. The barrels bring a strong old rotting wood presence. Whatever… No need to describe it, this was terrible, drain pour. That thing had more problems than my cousin Louis. And the poor dude now shares a doghouse with a rothweiler with whom he’s in love with after loosing his job at Wal-Mart because of his phobia of the color blue.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Rciesla (5499) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - MAR 1, 2009
Bottle handed to me by Dmac, thanks Dave (Gary), who then said this is horrible. Well here we go, obvious black body with a tan head. A horrible balance of soy maple bourbon and some woodiness. Vanilla vegetative and astringent. Yes Dave, it does suck.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 badlizard (5159) - Berkeley, California, USA - FEB 2, 2008
1 L bottle from Holiday. Black with a small tan head. Bourbon, pussy, and chocolate aroma. Ok, just chocolate and bourbon, really. Chocolate, drip coffee, and mild bourbon flavor with some vanilla notes. I was wanting better.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 blankboy (5153) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 6, 2008
Bottle (1 Litre) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc, mabel & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Bottled: 2007. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a large diminishing light-brown head. Aroma of lightly roasted caramel malt, a bit of bourbon, vanilla and wood. Flavour’s mildly bourbony along with roasted malt and some sourness with a long bitter boozy finish. Average to medium bodied. Just O.K.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jtclockwork (5105) - , New Jersey, USA - SEP 23, 2010
Bottle thanks to MSante79. Interesting stout. Pours black with a dark brown head. Thin layer of retention. Nose of chocolate, vanilla and bourbon. Taste is very sweet chocolate, bourbon, vanilla and coffee. Body has thinner mouthfeel than expected.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Dickinsonbeer (5075) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - FEB 25, 2009
Bottle thanks to dmac I think for sharing? Actually no thanks. This beer is pretty terrible. Bomber. Pours a deep dark cola color with a thin fizzy diminishing head to almsot nothing. Aroma is a bit boozy- with somecaramelized fruits, bourbon, and intense vanilla oak. Flavor had a bit of vegetal dms, with more over the top bourbon totally masking all malts and roastiness, with much more vanilla and oakiness to make sure everythign is over the top. Mouthfeel ended up thin, tannic and astringent. meh.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 mabel (5043) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 13, 2008
[1523-20080711] 1L bottle. Dark figgy sweet-roasted malt aroma. Black body with quick creamy tan bubbles. Roasted wooden boozy malt flavour. Full body has a sour tang. Rather enjoyable.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Skyview (5023) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - JUN 12, 2007
Thanks goes to Joebrew for sharing this bourbon aged brew. Label even reads "Czar Brew" Pours a near opqaue dark amber brown brew with little head if any. Aroma is complex, lots of dark pitted fruit, sweet toasted chocolate malt, coffee, and some cabernet red wine. Taste is thick and chewy with a very sweet tongue feel. The finish is where I detect more of the bourbon flavor and then a light chocolate aftertate.
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 michael-pollack (4962) - King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 9, 2009
Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of roasted malts and slight bourbon. Poured pitch black in color with a medium to large-sized, creamy, brown head that lasted throughout. Opaque. Not sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of bourbon, chocolate, caramel, roasted malts, vanilla, toffee, and slight chocolate. Medium body. Smooth, creamy texture. Soft carbonation. Bourbon, vanilla, and toffee finish is like candy.
