COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Stout has been complemented by a generous bourbon flavor after aging five extra weeks in white oak bourbon barrels. Already saturated with dark roasted malt flavor, bourbon and oak highlights perfect the balance in this enormously rich ale.

Pours deep black with brown head, big bourbon nose with some chocolate notes. Taste up front is big bourbon, leading into some chocolate and coffee notes that finishes sweet. Not a bad BBL RIS, but a bit overkill on the bourbon flavor.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate and licorice aroma with bourbon hints. Sweetish malty roasted chocolate and licorice flavor. Has a roasted malty malty chocolate finish with hints of bourbon in the aftertaste.

Bottle thanks to MSante79. Interesting stout. Pours black with a dark brown head. Thin layer of retention. Nose of chocolate, vanilla and bourbon. Taste is very sweet chocolate, bourbon, vanilla and coffee. Body has thinner mouthfeel than expected.

Bought in Oct. ’11, drank, Oct. ’12. Opaque with a slow fading coffee pillow head. Nose is spiced rum raisins, and vanilla with some molasses. Big molasses flavor along with soy, burnt malts, and wood. Thin palate. This has all the right elements, but something keeps it from being great.

Shared bomber, poured to snifters, showing a black/brown hue, with a modest layer of tan head foam, and waves & spots of lacing. The aroma was roasted, with a nice, malty creaminess, chocolate, and some dark caramel sweetness. Medium+ bodied, the taste was similar to the nose, plus notes of dark fruit as prune, and barrel notes as bourbon, a touch of vanilla, and some subtle, tanniny astringency. Had just previously sampled the RIS, and found this to be more complex, richer, and fuller bodied.

Bottled in Spring 2007, 1L, labeled at 11% ABV. Poured quite black with a respectable cap of very deep beige head. Aroma was of chocolate chip cookies and vanilla.. subtle sweet bourbon and woody aspects.. fructose sugars take over as it warms up a bit.. not bad. Flavor had a rather sweet chocolate base accented by ample vanilla beans.. bourbon rose as this warmed up, but the chocolate sweetness prevailed. Heavier-bodied on the palate with lots of sweetness.. tasty beer with not too much influence from the barrel. Very good stuff!

Bottle… RBSG 07… Pours near black with a small, creamy, beige head. Notes of milk chocolate, cookie dough, tobacco, vanilla, sour mash and charcoal in the nose. The flavor is all sweet chocolate and vanilla with mild bourbon warmth and bitterness. Medium-bodied and lightly creamy with soft carbonation. Chocolaty, whiskey finish.

1 L bottle from Holiday. Black with a small tan head. Bourbon, pussy, and chocolate aroma. Ok, just chocolate and bourbon, really. Chocolate, drip coffee, and mild bourbon flavor with some vanilla notes. I was wanting better.

Bottle. Average brown bubbly head that mostly diminished. Spare display of lacework. Pitch black. Aroma of roasted malt, vanilla, wood, mild dried fruit notes. Over the palate came mild metallic notes as well with light liquorish feel. Medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Heavy sweet flavor with mild bitterness. Lingering malty and light bitter finish.

Bottle to snifter. Pour is deep black brown with frothy but thin head that dissapates. Solid lacing that lasts. Smells of bourbon chocolate molasses and vanilla and scents of coffee. Taste bitter and I felt it was very bitter boozy and dry finish although there were some coco flavors as well. Palate medium feel and lively booze on swallow. I am very glad that I was able to try this, but we probably skip next time around.
