3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Strong, malty aroma has a robust overtone of caramel with just a hint of cloves. Pours a somewhat translucent sepia with an average light tan head. Hearty flavor has malty, caramel, clove, nutty and earthy notes. Smooth, firm texture has a decent fizz and leaves a malty, slightly sweet finish. Not ba-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-ad at all.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This Dopple Bock pours a deep copper/amber and has a thin tan head which dissipates fairly quickly. The aroma is sweet with dark fruit and a bit of alcohol (not bad). Dark fruit continues into the flavor profile and is complimented nicely by a nutty sweetness. The beer finishes sweet and fast with dryness lingering on the back of the tongue. There is a slight alcohol warmth which goes great on a cold evening. If I ice-fished, this might be the beer I take along.
Price was great @ $6.49/4

12 oz. Bottle. A powerfully potent Bock! Malt, molasses scent with caramel and grain. Dark brown pour, not much head, and I poured vigorously - a low point. Light/med body with a fizzy feel and a slightly crisp finish. Molasses fronted taste with a carmal malt middle and a brown-like finish, lots of dark roasty flavor.

3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
(Bottle) Pours clear dark mahogany copper reddish brown with a pale brown/nougat coloured head. The aroma is very vinous with notes of dark fruits, cherries, raspberries and grapes alongside malty tones of fat and buttery caramel/toffee as well as dark bread. Whispers of hops, milk and chocolate. The flavour is light to medium sweet, light bitter and medium acidic with notes of vinegar and citrus up front. Undertones of caramel, toffee and bread alongside a hint of hops. The mouthfeel round, tart and unclean with a soft carbonation. Toffee, citrus, milk and vinegar. Medium bodied. A bad bottle from a fantastic brewery.

3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber courtesy of Marsiblursi. Pours clear deep ruby reddish brown with a frothy goldenish brown head that slowly dissipates while leaving some thick lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet, sour, vinous and malty with dark grapes, wood, toffee, lemon zeat, vanilla fudge, dusty cocoa powder, dark bread, resin, hay and caramel. Taste is tiny sweet and sour with dark bread, grapes, lemon juice, wood, red wine vinegar, orange zest, lemon hard candy, leather, grass, dark plums, cherries, biscuits and hints of port wine. Mouthfeel is slightly dry, tiny tart and medium to full bodied. Finish is slightly sour and tiny tart with grapes, plums, cherries, wood, dark bread and hints of red wine vinegar. Good and very vinous but not sure it’s supposed to be this sour.

On tap at Sprecher Restaurant in Middleton, pours a clear dark brown with an off white head, aroma has a good amount of chocolate and roasted malts, the flavor is very roasty on the front end with the chocolate notes coming through in the finish, some bread is in there as well, another decent choice here in Middleton.

12 ounce bottle from Sam’s Quik Stop. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium sized creamy brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of big raisin notes with spice, caramel and toffee. 3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle poured into a footed Celebrator glass - Murky mahogany pour with a foamy light tan head. Toffee and hints of bourbon on the nose, thick, lightly toasted malt, and a faintly fruity yeast. Taste lands on the sweet side, with a touch of booziness that transitions into thick waves of booze-soaked dark bread, rich toasty malt, and sweet caramel. A touch of milkiness and metal. Full bodied with rich carbonation that is a bit too aggressive. Pretty nice dopplebock, but perhaps a touch too sweet for my tastes.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Originally reviewed: 4/23/10. Poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a cloudy mahogany with a thick luscious tan head capping it off. Great retention; left some sticky lace globs on the glass edge. Scents of raisins, prunes, tart grapes, and alcohol. Different.
The body is creamy and smooth. Thicker than many of the Dopple’s I’ve had. I like that. Flavor profile starts out mimicking the scent with some tart fruitiness, raisins, and a light alcohol burn on the backend. But the finish is very full and bready. Some mild toasted bread crust and crackers. I like that finish!
Decent beer. Probably my favorite of the style so far, and I will admit, this is not one of my favorite styles in general. Recommend.
