detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 28, 2007 Very cloudy amber colored beer, with a good two inches of fluffy white head. Most of the foam melted away quickly, but a little bit stuck around for the whole glass, leaving some spotty lace behind. I caught a distinct yeast aroma, but no spice or citrus.
Good, strong bready wheat beer taste. A bit middle of the road: not as sweet as some hefes I’ve had in the past, and not as dry as some that I’ve had either. I prefer the sweeter end of the spectrum for hefes, and this was pretty good. The bottle label led me to expect cloves and citrus. Cloves I found, citrus I did not. Again a bit middle of the road - I was very pleased with the level of clove spiciness, which was distinct but not overpowering. I would have liked some more citrus.
Smooth carbonation and medium body. Brigadier (1220), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Dec 27, 2006 16 oz bottle
I’m glad I did not have to spend any money on this. While it was drinkable, it lacked much of the flavor of a good hefeweizen. I don’t know what exactly was missing but it was just a little more bland than something I would want to pick up on a regular basis. Perhaps it was just a little too dumbed down for the masses, but I will not be buying this one ever.
Aroma / Appearance - The pour resulted in a cloudy murky mess with a trace amount of carbonation. The head was about a half-finger in height with slimy lacing that quickly fled back into the main body. The nose was a mixture of malts, slightly overripe bananas and pepper. It was not what I was expecting from a hefe at all. In the background are used orange rinds.
Flavor / Palate - The mouthfeel is soapy and thin. While there is a trace amount of citrus and banana, the primary taste is all lemon juice. Some yeasty aftertaste slightly redeems the experience bu the simple and dry finish brings it firmly into the realm of mediocrity. While not the worst hefeweizen on the planet, it is just below average. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Dec 19, 2006 Thanks IBrew2or3. Pours a cloudy yellow with orange tint, nice white head. The flavor was different it had a touch of clove then almost butterscotch taste, maybe that was the yeast, some lemon, slight banana but not much. sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Nov 30, 2006 Bottle thanks to santa: Hazy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma, Wheat, banana, yeast and some lemon notes. Flavor, sweet and yeasty, banana, some light spices. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 3, 2006 Bottle from Degarth. Turbid gold pour with aroma of hopcitrus, big banana, clove. Tastes citrusy, with a lot of banana, Bazooka, and a solid dose of clovy flavor, and hops. Medium palate, with a smooth finish. Strykzone (1459), Wood River, Illinois, USA Sep 22, 2006 Unusual amounts of cloves in this hefe but that fades with warming. It settles into a dellicious classic tasting brew. Banana begins to come out in the flavor as does the yeastiness. Carbonation is noticeable but not overpowering. I don’t taste any citrus to speak of which is unusual for the style. However, a hint of tartness is evident. Late in the glass it seems to get sweeter and some bubblegum pops up. This is a very easy drinking beer as hefes tend to be. I’m ready for another! weeare138 (933), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 5, 2006 Appears a hazy gold, 2 finger, creamy white head that slowly fades out. Scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of creamy wheat, clove, banana, bubblegum, and mild sulfer that is barely noticable.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas, perhaps a bit less complex though.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, a bit thin, and slightly sweet and sour with a clean finish.
egajdzis (3604), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 4, 2006 Poured a cloudy, orange yellow color with a medium sized, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of light banana, vanilla, buttercream, and a bit of sulphur. Taste of more banana, and light caramel malts, tart citrus, and some light, buttery, toffeeness.
