Commercial Description:
This coarse filtered wheat ale is fermented with a German yeast culture for a refreshingly light spiciness and hints of citrus fruit. A cloudy appearance and an immense creamy head are characteristic of this lightly hopped Bavarian brew.

Has an OK hazy golden yellow color, with almost no head. OK yeasty aroma. Decent flavor, also noticable yeast and wheat. Pretty good body, and OK carbonation. Overall, decent, but nothing special.

Sprecher Hefe Weiss pours to a very opaque blonde color with a tall, creamy, white head, and a very lively carbonation. This beer is sedimented with yeast, and you are encouraged to swirl the yeast into the beer, yeast is a major flavor component in weiss beer. The nose is wonderful, lots of clove and banana like aromas pair with aromas of pear, and wheat malt aroma. The palate is firm with lots of tart wheat malt flavor, more estery banana and clove notes, and a touch more of ripe fruit. Sprecher Weiss finishes with more banana and clove flavors, and it is very thirst quenching. This is the perfect summer brew. It is tart, refreshing, and delicious. I love drinking this beer on a hot summer day, and it makes a great after work drink. Weiss beer goes great with a variety of dishes, including meats and cheeses. I paired one last night with some Usinger’s landjaeger(dried, smoked sausage) Wisconsin bacon cheddar cheese, and some Polish style pickles.

I really enjoyed this hefe. Lots of smoke flavor with banana and clove. Very smooth and tasty.

Bottled. Pours a hazy light yellow color. Aroma is fairly yeasty. A hint of acidity as well. Flavor is mostly grainy with a the yeasty flavor being a little subdued. Not really a bad hefe, just seems to be a little too grainy.

This Hefeweizen pours a hazy light orange gold color from a 16oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is banana and clove, wheat and spices. A medium bodied German Hefeweizen. Malts are fruity and sweet, with lots of banana and clove flavors. In fact there are a whole lot of fruit esters in this beer. The yeasts seem a little bright, almost Belgian in nature. Nut that could just be an effect of the all that sweetness. A little too sweet for my liking, but a smooth tasting, easy drinking Hefe. Nice carbonation. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

(16 oz bottle: $1.99 at BevMo in La Jolla, CA) Mildly aromatic nose of wheat, corn, obvious clove, and light banana, and that’s an accurate picture of what’s coming with the flavor. Wheat and light corn make for a acceptably flavorful base, again with the banana being a bit shy in comparison to the grains, but the spicy clove is fairly assertive and an obvious focal point. The beer is not sweet at all, and in fact, it has a modest lemony sourness in the finish. No need to add a wedge to this beer, if you’re into that sort of thing. Medium bodied on the palate, but between the modest sourness and the ample carbonation, the palate remains dry, lively and refreshing through to the finish. Body does tend to slip toward thinness in the finish, but not quite to the point of being watery. Light-medium golden in color, and the body is fully cloudy. A medium-size, white head settles to powdered sugar and a small ring atop the beer. A bit different from most of the authentic Hefeweizens I’ve tried, and it took me a few sips to become accustomed to it, but I rather like this beer now. I’d like the clove to have less presence and the banana to be a bit more assertive since I really enjoy that in a Hefeweizen, and technically, the corn flavor shouldn’t be there either, but all in all, the beer works okay for me. Still, I’d much rather drink something like Ayinger Bräu Weisse if I want a really good German Hefeweizen.

I tried this on the brewery tour a few years ago and remembered it as being a very decent american hefe weizen. Nice lemon zest in the aroma and a slightly tart finish. I would buy again, but nothing wonderful.

Poured more like a Kristallweizen until some spent yeast dropped in at the last second... light copper, mostly clear with a soda-pop head. Banana and bread present in aroma, but it’s not as mouthwatering as "banana bread". It’s rather stale with additional lemon notes, smoke and light diesel fumes. Flavor is banana and clove within a tingly body, but a sour finish lingers long and "phlegmy" at the back of the throat.
