Commercial Description:
This coarse filtered wheat ale is fermented with a German yeast culture for a refreshingly light spiciness and hints of citrus fruit. A cloudy appearance and an immense creamy head are characteristic of this lightly hopped Bavarian brew.

One of my favorites. Slight banana, lots of clove spice. Best fresh. Readily available bottled in Madison and on tap in Milwaukee.

Sprecher Hefe Weiss pours to a very opaque blonde color with a tall, creamy, white head, and a very lively carbonation. This beer is sedimented with yeast, and you are encouraged to swirl the yeast into the beer, yeast is a major flavor component in weiss beer. The nose is wonderful, lots of clove and banana like aromas pair with aromas of pear, and wheat malt aroma. The palate is firm with lots of tart wheat malt flavor, more estery banana and clove notes, and a touch more of ripe fruit. Sprecher Weiss finishes with more banana and clove flavors, and it is very thirst quenching. This is the perfect summer brew. It is tart, refreshing, and delicious. I love drinking this beer on a hot summer day, and it makes a great after work drink. Weiss beer goes great with a variety of dishes, including meats and cheeses. I paired one last night with some Usinger’s landjaeger(dried, smoked sausage) Wisconsin bacon cheddar cheese, and some Polish style pickles.

Tasted at Map Room, Summer Gathering 2003. Good weiss, very true to style. Yellow/amber, semi-cloudy with a small white head. Sweet banana/clove nose. Medium sweet, a little bit of hops, prominent banana and a touch of vanilla. Mouthfeel just a tad thin.

Bright appearance, high yellow gold color with solid white head. The smell is brilliant yeasty bready yet fruity. Taste has some fantastic flavors of banana, clove, and spice, works well in the summer and the fall, winter, and spring. I highly recommend this Hefe, I've had few that are this tasty let alone at the availability of this beer. If you've had other Sprecher and been disappointed, i.e. the Abbey Triple, Maibock, or Imperial Stout, you should try this and the black bavarian, it will reaffirm faith in this brewery.

Pretty, pretty stuff. Brilliant orange-gold, opaque and shimmering, nice, fluffy head. Nose crisp, lots of banana and clove. Flavor is very fruity, citrus and banana, spicy and yeasty. Palate very full. Nice stuff.

I really like this beer. When it is fresh (check those dates!) it is citrusy, spicey and refreshing. Sadly, Sprecher stopped making their other two wheat beers, Milwaukee Weiss and a Dunkel Weizen that was out of this world. They were both better than the Hefe. A moment of silence for those late great wheats....
