This traditional ale was originally brewed in England for the British troops stationed in India. Double dry-hopped,it has intense hop flavors and aromas delicately balanced with a potent, yet delicious, malty sweetness.

Randy's Notes: "Our IPA is of the imperial or double style, therefore much stronger than the normal IPA's now found everywhere. It has a very balanced but different flavor than most US micro types focusing on more on malt and hop balance where CA IPA's emphasize massive hop aroma and bitterness."

Editor's Note: also known as IPA2 Double IPA.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2013 Bottle. Slightly hazy pretty orange color. I donít get much from the aroma. It says it is dry-hopped, but maybe my bottle is a bit old. Some faint grassy, citrusy aromas and maybe a little malt. Bitter up front taste with some honey character and some sweet malt. Kind of oily. Bitter all the way through, finishing with a lingering bitterness. Not the best IPA I have had, but a decent effort.

12oz bottle from Kroger in Grandview: copper orange pour with thin white head. aroma of sweet candy caramel, grapefruit. tastes are grassy, floral, tinny, spice, caramel malts, citrus. fairly aggressive bitter - but evenly. little dry. oily medium palate.

bottle @ Jungle Jimís / Eastgate OH --- Hazy amber brown color, solid rocky 2" ivory head, globs and streaks of lace. Aroma of malt and hops. Taste is somewhat sweet malt that adds strong floral hops on the swallow, both parts moving through a medium finish. Sprecherís claim of "massive" hop bitterness isnít backed up by the brew, but it is a solid traditional IPA.

Bottle shared at a tasting. Pours a hazy orange with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of toffee, floral, citrus hops and pale malt. The taste is bitter citrus hops, pale malt. Thin bodied, astringent, lingering bitterness.

A great double. This is all about the hops. Nice dank bitterness in the aromas and flavors. Excellent.

An amber colored beer, cloudy with average carbonation. Has a dense white head. I smell a caramel malt around with a very sutle earthy hop bouqet. A nicely balanced brew of caramel malts and earthy hops maybe a bit herbal too. A medium body beer. Doesnít match up well to the label. I find this beer really to be lacking flavor. I expected more of a flavor wallop. All in all itís pretty good.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear bright copper with lasting wisp of white head. Aroma is oxidized hops, and overpowering malts. Flavor is intense with notes of rusted metal. Malt is not very present. Overall unbalanced. Sat on the shelf for 3.5 months, Iíd love to try this fresh.

On tap at the Wisconsin Dells Sprecher location. Listed as "IPA≤" at 7.5% abv. Very dark red-brown with a minuscule white head that is mostly diminishing. Heavily caramel nose atop pine needles, toasted grains, very light coffee. Rather heavy bitterness with little malt backbone.

12 oz bottle from PickínSave. Wonderful addition to the Sprecher line, this ale pours a deep, cloudy copper with great nose. Off white head last fair to middlin. Intense hop flavor but well balanced with fine bitter finish. Comes in 4-packs, and like most Sprecher offerings, shows the fine art of Randy Sprecher, one our original craft brewers. Really worth a try. This ale is mellow so donít be put off by the 8% ABV at all. Oops, time for another trip to the fridge. From Racine. Thanks Sprecher!

12 oz bottle. Color is light amber. Aroma is weird, like a funky mass-market lager with more hops. Taste is one-dimensional - jarring pine-resin hops bitterness. Medium carbonation and very dry. A mediocre, bordering on bad, DIPA.

Poured from a bottle. Thin white head dissipates quickly. Nice, hazy golden color. Aroma is more malt than hops, full of bread and fruitcake scents. The flavor follows the malt-forward aroma, but there is a reasonably bitter hop finish. Good, rich mouth feel. Overall not bad, just a tiny to the malty side for me. That said, I wouldnít turn one down if offered.
