COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This traditional ale was originally brewed in England for the British troops stationed in India. Double dry-hopped,it has intense hop flavors and aromas delicately balanced with a potent, yet delicious, malty sweetness.

Randy's Notes: "Our IPA is of the imperial or double style, therefore much stronger than the normal IPA's now found everywhere. It has a very balanced but different flavor than most US micro types focusing on more on malt and hop balance where CA IPA's emphasize massive hop aroma and bitterness."

Editor's Note: also known as IPA2 Double IPA.

The beer looked clear in the mug, with light copper colored body, and a head that was a little thicker than the width of one finger. The smell was very mild for the style with a herbal-spicy hop smell followed by carbonation smell. The initial taste was quite spicy and resinous with notes of chill pepper, ginger, and cinnamon, but it also suffered from a metallic tinge. This was followed by a honey like sweetness, and the finish was a little floral. The mouthfeel was harsher than I like, and the alcohol was weirdly hot for a beer that was under 8% ABV. Overall misses the mark for me.

A great double. This is all about the hops. Nice dank bitterness in the aromas and flavors. Excellent.

An amber colored beer, cloudy with average carbonation. Has a dense white head. I smell a caramel malt around with a very sutle earthy hop bouqet. A nicely balanced brew of caramel malts and earthy hops maybe a bit herbal too. A medium body beer. Doesn’t match up well to the label. I find this beer really to be lacking flavor. I expected more of a flavor wallop. All in all it’s pretty good.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear bright copper with lasting wisp of white head. Aroma is oxidized hops, and overpowering malts. Flavor is intense with notes of rusted metal. Malt is not very present. Overall unbalanced. Sat on the shelf for 3.5 months, I’d love to try this fresh.

On tap at the Wisconsin Dells Sprecher location. Listed as "IPA²" at 7.5% abv. Very dark red-brown with a minuscule white head that is mostly diminishing. Heavily caramel nose atop pine needles, toasted grains, very light coffee. Rather heavy bitterness with little malt backbone.

12 oz bottle from Pick’nSave. Wonderful addition to the Sprecher line, this ale pours a deep, cloudy copper with great nose. Off white head last fair to middlin. Intense hop flavor but well balanced with fine bitter finish. Comes in 4-packs, and like most Sprecher offerings, shows the fine art of Randy Sprecher, one our original craft brewers. Really worth a try. This ale is mellow so don’t be put off by the 8% ABV at all. Oops, time for another trip to the fridge. From Racine. Thanks Sprecher!

12 oz bottle. Color is light amber. Aroma is weird, like a funky mass-market lager with more hops. Taste is one-dimensional - jarring pine-resin hops bitterness. Medium carbonation and very dry. A mediocre, bordering on bad, DIPA.

Poured from a bottle. Thin white head dissipates quickly. Nice, hazy golden color. Aroma is more malt than hops, full of bread and fruitcake scents. The flavor follows the malt-forward aroma, but there is a reasonably bitter hop finish. Good, rich mouth feel. Overall not bad, just a tiny to the malty side for me. That said, I wouldn’t turn one down if offered.

It has the bitterness of a good IPA but lacks flavor. This one just doesn’t do much for me.

Good beer, at a free beer event so it was that much better. not very unique, just a pretty well balanced double ipa with strong but one dimension hop and malt presence. pleasant, would get again probably

Bottle. Pours a hazy copper color. Thin white head with minimal lacing. Aroma is a bit off. Earthy hops and sweet malt throughout. Bitter and malty at the same time; weird. Full bodied with average carbonation. Not my favorite IPA profile.
