“Kriek” means cherry, and we’ve made this Belgian-style ale our own by using Door County cherry juice and some Wisconsin organic malts. Beginning with a clear cherry top note, earthiness – funk, wet hay --and tartness become more pronounced with each sip, as do the Brett and lactic acid cultures. At 5%, this is a refreshing session beer that pairs well with foods.

12 oz bottle from Ledgers labeled 25 Kreik Lambic. Nose is sharp tart note, a little horsewblanket, light cherries, and lots of yeast, murky raspberry red with a big pink head that laces heavily and lasts quite a while. Flavor is sour and bretty with hints of cherries, but mostly lots of tartness. Really quite sour, bretty, and good.

12oz bottle from Binny’s poured into a shaker. Pours a cloudy light red with about 2 fingers of frothy pink head. Aroma is sour cherry and a little earthy leather. Taste is heavy sour and light sweet. Lots of sour green apple with a good bit of cherry and earth. A little Band-Aid in the aftertaste. Light bodied with a thin texture. Fizzy carbonation and a long sour finish. Overall, not bad. Could use a little less Brett. I’ll finish this bottle but won’t be buying it again.

12 oz bottle thanks to 17thfloor for sharing. Pours an odd red pink color with a small pinkish white froth. Aroma is strong Brett note with lots of candied cherries very sweet and sharp funkiness. Flavor is just as weird lots of that sweet candied fake cherry notes, plastic and funky with a strange tartness. All kinds of odd with a sharp carbonation. So so weird

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2012 25th Anniversary Bottle. I can sum this up really, really quickly... Cherry-Orval-Kool-Aid! Yup,that’ll do it.... brett heavy, dry cherry cough medicine, which is a new one for me, gritty like a cherry chewable Flinstone vitamin... tastes exactly like those little f’s. Leather, horseblanket, but o so chalky. Someone at Sprecher clearly doesn’t know what a lambic is.... actually aroma is the same as a cherry kids vitamin. Needs improvement.

Bottle. Pours reddish orange with an off white head. Funky and earthy aroma with some light cherry fruitiness. The flavor has a good balance of funk and cherry, with some light earthy notes. Pretty good.

Bottle - brusin ales - 25th anniversary edition - pours a clear orangey peach with a finger of pale pink head. Lots of tiny bubbles. Aroma is very barnyard, wet dog, hay, and a faint bit of cherry. Taste is sour and tart with a sour finish. Palate a bit thin and watery. Overall, average effort for a lambic.

Pours a hazy red color with a loose small head and good lace.

This smells pretty gosh darned nice. Some horseblanket and sour cherry are dominant, but wet wood some hay and a little used popsicle stick are in there as well.

The flavor is sour up front but that sourness falls off a bit, the flavor is earthy and a little odd all around. There is some astringency and some distilled white vinegar notes. The cherry for all is glory in the aroma is fairly subdued in the flavor.

The mouthfeel on this beer is fairly flat and thin.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-amber color with a huge foamy salmon head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was faint cherry with a touch of must. The flavor was tart, sour and vinegary with a bit of cherry and must. The finish was long, tart, sour and vinegary. Light body. Disappointing.
