COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bananas are the main ingredient in mbege style beers popular in Eastern Africa. In keeping with tradition, this is brewed with real bananas and presented unfiltered. Light hints of banana remain present in the aroma and flavor of this unique offering

Bottled at Monk’s Café Sveavägen, Stockholm. Muddy amber, no head. Dusty glue aroma. Sweet, yet tart, fruity with lemon, perfume and banana juice. Medium bodied with clean mouthfeel, low bitterness. Well... different...

16oz bottle. Poured a medium and slightly hazy amber color with an averaged sized head. Aromas of bananas with some citrus and caramel in the background. Tastes of bananas. This one was bananas all the way - stronger in the aromas though.

500 ml bottle. Deep cloudy pale amber coloured brew. Aroma is lightly spicy with soft toasted grain character over a lightly banana-ish flavour. A hint of smokiness with a husky earthiness as well. Warming brings up a slightly vineous sherryish note. A bit phenolic and spicy with light orange citrus, banana and a soft tartness on the back. Honeyed sweetness on the back. The graininess and tartness are interesting, but the phenolics get a bit much after awhile.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours deep copper w 2 f ow head. Nose is funky, slightly assy, with c malt, floral hops. Tastes like a cloying sticky mess, of overly sweet malt and rancid bananas. Palate is awful. I took 3 sips and thrn drain poured almost half of the bottle. A travesty.

The grail of all beers was found. This is the alcove offered to us by Sprecher. Pours golden hazy, no head. Aroma of industrial glue, carton. Taste, wood, smoke, tasted like old apple with some soap, and mouthwash. It just doesn’t have anything appealing. While I appreciate the effort to try an African recipe, this beverage is just awful to drink.

Damn! Now that I’ve had this mess from some hateful bastard at the tasting what do I do with the curse-d bottle I’ve got? If you enjoy pain and understand the scale of beer yumminess extends well below the likes of a Chapeau product then this is for you. Pours hazy murky light mud with micro thin head. The aroma is fresh plastic appliance stored in a dusty cardboard box. OK, this is where the crazies are separated from the insane. Why go further and drink something that smells this bad? Well, for one thing, you won’t know where the bottom is until you’ve tasted this. The taste is earthy, gravel, cardboard, plastic apples, chemicals, faint yeast and spice. I can’t go on . . .
