3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 14, 2012 A translucent red color, bubbling with carbonation, contains a small head that smells of fruit and a tinge of alcohol. An abundantly fruity, slightly sour taste transcends into a malty finish across your taste buds. I am generally not a huge fan of Oktoberfests, but Sprechers delivers a fine beer, that tastes of fruit (but not in a bad way) in their rendition.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
16oz, Sprecher bottle, twist-off. Rusty brown color, dark tan head. Initial aroma of musty attic, it may be an old bottle. As it opens up there is a bit more of toasted malt, caramel character. As well as some fruity notes. It definitely needed to open. Somewhat of a metallic character, some toffee-like notes, some caramel, toasted malts flavors. Soft, creamy texture. Overall, there is a dominating fruity character in this beer that kinda takes it away from the style of Oktoberfest/Märzen for me. It is definitely in the category of Vienna with the slightest blood line to an Alt bier. Still a great beer, (BUT) with more of toasted caramel & fruit esters, and less oak, it just isn’t Märzen for me...

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle poured into a shaker. Roasty caramel with a good dose of citrus fruityness. Pretty decent beer, considering I don’t like Marzen styles.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is medium amber.
Aroma is moderately malty (caramel), lightly hoppy (apricot), with a note of candy sugar.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, syrupy texture, lively/soft carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Nose is amazingly simple...pretty much just sugar/caramel. Very sweet in the mouth without much of anything to balance. Pretty poor.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Deep orange-brown. Tastes of oats and caramel, with a well-executed sourness. Thicker feel than usual, seeming maybe even a little gelatinous in the mouth.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
16 ounce bottle into imperial pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy deep red color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of raisin, caramel, apple, molasses, toast, bread, toffee, pear, light nuttiness, and light herbal. Nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of caramel, raisin, toast, biscuit, nuttiness, molasses, toffee, and herbal. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, biscuit, molasses, raisin, toffee, and herbal on the finish for a bit. Very nice flavor balance and robustness; zero cloying flavors on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Oktoberfest. Well balanced robust flavors, and very smooth to drink. I have a feeling that this was a bottle from last year or older, but it held up nicely. Very enjoyable offering.
