Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 1, 2007 (Bottle 47 cll) Pours a clear, orangey brown with a beige head. Aroma of peat smoke and burned malt. Medium body with accents of burned caramel and whisky malt. The finish is dry and bitter. Very smoked indeed - this almost ought to be a Smoked in style. 290407 Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark May 1, 2007 Bottle. Average fizzy off-white head that mostly diminished. Spar lacing. Clear amber colour. Rye bread, caramel, burned, hint of smoke and light fruit. Medium bodied with an average carbonation. Flavour was sweet malty profile with some burned bitter notes. Light sweet and smoky finish. chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 1, 2007 Kudos for not being to sweet, a nice dry finish, and the smokey peat flavor. Sadly this had a nasty, strong ash taste, escpecially in the finish and lingering after taste. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Apr 21, 2007 Bought this from the beers of the British Isles sampler pack. I thought this sampler contained the IPA, but unfortunately, it didn’t. The scotch ale and imperial stout interest me the most (on paper), so here goes. Pours a deep red. Aromas are sweet, caramel, butterscotch, somewhat bocklike. Flavor is interesting. Definitely full bodied, very sweet and slightly cloying, although not over bearing. Lightly smoked, which accompanies the sweetness well. Maybe a little sweet, but otherwise, a pretty decent offering. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Apr 10, 2007 The Sprecher brewery allows guests to mix and match their own four pack carriers. Awesome! From a 16-oz bottle it pours a cloudy muddy brown wih an off-white thin head. Very good lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel, toffee and even a hint of peat. Flavor includes toffee and mostly caramel. I swear I even got a touch of burn barley malt in there. Hops is a little low for a Scotch Ale but very good. Palate is smokey and dry. NIce product. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA Apr 5, 2007 16 oz bottle. Pours to a beautiful, bright, caramel color, with a thick, creamy, white head, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is just awesome, with lots of good sweet/carmel malt aroma, fresh bread, and light hints of peat smoke. The palate is rich, and full on the tongue. Flavors of sweet malt, light toast, caramel, and butterscotch, and light peat smoked flavor coat the tongue. This beer finishes with more fantastic caramel malt, and light peat smoke up front, then ends with a light, peppery, alcohol burn that lingers. Outstanding, delicious beer. Stylistically, one of the best I have ever tasted. World class. undsioux7 (553), Cologne, Minnesota, USA Apr 3, 2007 I pour this scotch ale into my glass and see a brown beer with a small off white head. I take a whiff. Caramel smokiness and toasted malt. Not bad I think to myself. Then I take a taste. WTF is this shit. burnt syrupy mess. The smokiness comes through more and makes it a bit more brearable. Not for me. *Goes to sink to pour down the drain, and gets a surly bender.*
You suck Grim. SoLan (1369), Orlando, Florida, USA Mar 9, 2007 Amber with 2cm of frothy, off white head. Nose of lightly toasty, peaty malt, earth, and some caramel like sweetness. Flavor is similar adding a small dose of smoke, more caramel, cocoa powder, and just a hint of crisply bitter hops in the finish. Pretty accurate commercial description. Medium body, just a bit smoother than balanced. Decent, drinkable.
