Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of caramel, toffee, raisins, ripe dark fruit and hints of honey, smoke and wood. Flavor is sweet and roasted with notes of caramel, honey, toffee, ripe dark fruit, hints of raisins and molasses. Generally medium body with a pleasing sweet and malty finish. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 2, 2009 Darkish brown with a moderate white head, that leaves some lacing. Nice smoke and tabacco odour. A tad weak mouthfeel, decent taste, malt and peat and tabacco smoke taste. above average carbonation.
A decent scotch beer from this decent brewer. nuplastikk (1159), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jan 26, 2009 16oz bottle. Dark, murky but still a little transparent, brown. Smooth, simple and malty. Not unlike a lot of authentic Scottish Ales. Delicate hop balance, but overall it’s sweet and quite drinkable. Impressive medium bodied mouthfeel for a beer of it’s strength. Quite nice, I’d like to try it on draft. can8ianben (903), Pasadena, California, USA Jan 7, 2009 Aroma of burnt toast and maple syrup. Appearance is dark amber with a thin white foam on top. Flavor is toffee, raisins, and charred wood. Very drinkable! ABV is subtle but present. I like it! It reminds me of Cally’s Smokin’ Scottish which I used to enjoy in Harrisonburg, VA. DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA Jan 4, 2009 Bottle. Smoky malt aroma. Cloudy copper body, thin head. Flavor is very smoky and somewhat sweet, definite notes of brown sugar and caramel. Interesting and pleasing. PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Dec 26, 2008 Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - 16 oz bottle. Pours a murky dark copper-light brown with a very light off-white head. Aroma is of smoked peat and sausage. Sweet and smoky flavor with hints of caramel, smoked meat, peat and does not quite edge to the verge of cloying which I was afraid was going to happen when I poured it. Full bodied and belly warming. Mouthfeel is thick enough for the style. Decent selection from Sprecher - which is turning out to be a solid regional brewer making their way across the country. thejoeshow (232), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Dec 15, 2008 16 oz bottle. Pours a nice brown color with a bit of an amber hue. There is a small white head that lacks a ton of retention and the lacing could be a bit better. Aroma is sweet with notes of malt and maybe a touch of smoke...? It actually smells like a couple other Sprechers I have had recently. Flavor is nice. There are some sweet caramel flavors with a hint of smoke at the end. It is very smooth and malty. This is nicely approachable Scotch ale thats easy to drink. mcjay (301), Neenah, Wisconsin, USA Dec 14, 2008 Updated: Dec 20, 2008Light caramel aroma, deep amber color and a thin off white head. Dry malty taste with a roasted grainy finish.
