frylock (1001), Buffalo, New York, USA Apr 11, 2008 Mahogany colored with a thin ring of foam. Sweet and smokey aroma, hints of toffee, toasted malts and butterscotch. Peat smoked malts, caramel,a light hop presence and a light toasty/nutty finish. Gurst (338), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Apr 3, 2008 Smell of smoke and plums. Big malty taste: burnt toast, caramel, and fried dough. Slight smoky spiciness, but quite faint. A little fruit in the aftertaste. Rich, full body. IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Mar 7, 2008 Poured a dark golden/amber with a short lasting white head. Aroma was of strong malt with hints of toffee and a hint of smoke. Taste was dominated by a camel tasting malt(crystal) with a slight roasted flavor residing in the after-taste. Clean finish and a real pleasant beer. I think drinking this one at a warmer temperature really brings out the flavor. Real good brew. One of the most flavorful Scottish Ales I have tasted. Would buy again. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Feb 26, 2008 Bottle from the brewery. Dark red brown with medium tan head. Aroma is very smoky/peety, dry, subtle juniper gin, very intereting. Smoky and herbally flavor with dry caramel malt and slight alc. Medium body and hotly carbonated. This is interesting but a little too much for me. jfenglish (198), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 10, 2008 Aroma is very sweet, very smoky & malty. Cloudy brown, minimal head. Very pronounced smoke, but not overwhelming. Very sweet as well, not a hop leaf in sight. Hint of raisin at the end. Aggressive and interesting, a bit over the top for me. bhensonb (4189), Woodland, California, USA Jan 28, 2008 Rich plummy aroma. Hazy brown color with a beige/tan head that flattened very quickly. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavors are caramel, dark fruit, smoke, and more. It’s very rich and flavorful. Though heat is not noticeable, my body says there’s alcohol here. The finish is something pruney with smoke and light bitter. Quite surprising and palatable. shendrix (478), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jan 21, 2008 The nose coming off of this deep caramel-colored brew is all darkfruits and brown sugar. The palate is a warming caramel and whiskey flavor, with smoked barley backing. Worth a second drinking. ubamartian (155), Watertown, Wisconsin, USA Jan 16, 2008 Pours brown with a caramel and red color. Light white head dissipates quickly. Heavy malts. Caramel rasin. Undertone of alcohol. Taste of malts and hops is very balanced. Roasted. Finishes dry. Not as good as I would have liked to see.
