TheDean (784), MIlwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 4, 2007 Wow, this is probably my new favorite Sprecher beer. Smoked flavor that’s not overpowering. Hoped to pick up a couple bottles on my way out of the brewery, but they sold the final three cases in the hour I was there. I can see why.
mike mcneil (637), St Augustine, Florida, USA Jul 19, 2008 16 oz. bottle poured into a Maudite tulip. Shows a dark brown color with reddish-burgundy hues when held to the light. Produces a creamy but thin beige head with fairly decent retention throughout. No lacing observed. Nose shows off a restrained but pleasant sweet and peat smoke malt profile along with notes of brown sugar, raisin, plum, roasted malts. Palate was a bit on the thin side but smooth and subtly carbonated. Taste was classic Scotch Ale with a good deal of peat smoked malt coming to the forefront immediately. Love the peat smoke flavor; very unique and earthy. Overall flavor is sweet, sugary and toasty with a bit of dark, dried fruit lurking in the background. Unfortunately the flavors are also quite restrained and the finish is quick. Absolutely no evidence of a 8.27% abv; very light and easy going down. Not bad but not in the class of Old Chub or Skullspliter for instance. rudolf (1543), Buffalo, New York, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle. Goodbar Beer Club. Nose is rich malt, smoke, blue cheese, peated malt. Flavor is blue cheese, very rich malt, peat smoke. Too much cheese. sebletitje (147), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 6, 2008 Amber color. Somkey, nose is somewhat yeasty/cheese.
Aroma sugary, caramel malt. An interesting scotch ale. Oakes (6793), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jul 5, 2008 Reddish-brown colour. Smokey, lightly peaty nose with lots of caramel. Lots of smoke, a fair bit of caramel. Some brown sugar notes. The body is fairly light for style, and the overall presentation is somewhat simple. HomeBrewHawk (112), De Soto, Kansas, USA Jun 29, 2008 Shared with csbosox. 16oz bottle, served in a Duvel tulip. Poured copper/brown with a thin head. Rich malty aroma with fruit, caramel and some smoke. Full bodied with a smooth, rich mouthfeel. Sweet malt with toffee and more fruit. Good amount of peat smoke in finish. Tasty.
