frylock (950), Buffalo, New York, USA Apr 11, 2008 Mahogany colored with a thin ring of foam. Sweet and smokey aroma, hints of toffee, toasted malts and butterscotch. Peat smoked malts, caramel,a light hop presence and a light toasty/nutty finish.
cbeers21 (376), Miami, Florida, USA Aug 11, 2008 darker pour with a sizeable, but quikly fading head. Charred peaty breezes fill the nose as well as smokey wooded notes, and quieted toasted chocolate touches. A rounded taste with an herby, earthy vibe and a quieter drying and proglonged finish. Drinkable and has a decent amount of flavors to keep on sipping. Enjoyable. Beershine (1214), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 6, 2008 Deep clear, red-brown. Smoky, peaty aroma with lots of sweet malt character. Similar flavors--yum! Alcohol is hidden. A very, very nice Scotch style. cblado (78), Wisconsin, USA Jul 29, 2008 On tap at Club Garibaldi in Milwaukee. Color was a deep amber, nice lacing. Aroma was a smoky malt, some toffee or caramel characteristics. Flavor was very smoky, with caramel malt and a bit of hops. There was a definite aftertaste of burnt toast as well. I enjoyed this one a lot. mike mcneil (637), St Augustine, Florida, USA Jul 19, 2008 16 oz. bottle poured into a Maudite tulip. Shows a dark brown color with reddish-burgundy hues when held to the light. Produces a creamy but thin beige head with fairly decent retention throughout. No lacing observed. Nose shows off a restrained but pleasant sweet and peat smoke malt profile along with notes of brown sugar, raisin, plum, roasted malts. Palate was a bit on the thin side but smooth and subtly carbonated. Taste was classic Scotch Ale with a good deal of peat smoked malt coming to the forefront immediately. Love the peat smoke flavor; very unique and earthy. Overall flavor is sweet, sugary and toasty with a bit of dark, dried fruit lurking in the background. Unfortunately the flavors are also quite restrained and the finish is quick. Absolutely no evidence of a 8.27% abv; very light and easy going down. Not bad but not in the class of Old Chub or Skullspliter for instance. rudolf (1554), Buffalo, New York, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle. Goodbar Beer Club. Nose is rich malt, smoke, blue cheese, peated malt. Flavor is blue cheese, very rich malt, peat smoke. Too much cheese.
