2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 redlem (1264) - Ohio, USA - MAR 25, 2003
Nut brown color with a medium off white head. Malt straw aroma with hints of apple. Taste is mainly malt with a slightly dry finish.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jskendzel (602) - Washington DC, USA - JAN 5, 2003
Wonderful roasted aroma. Malt presence is well detected, however with so many roasted malts (6 I think) the beer is rather mono-dimensional other than these flavors. Fruity in the finish.

Pours a deep copper with a grainy aroma. The mouthfeel is earthy, but there is a decent amount of flavor and the finish is mellow.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2006 Lovely! Buttery and nutty with a mild complexity that doesn’t overwhelm. Pleasant English brown ale that’s perhaps lighter colored than most. Slightly sweet and delicious with a touch of citrus complexity!
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jedimasternick (96) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - OCT 24, 2002
Much better than the "average" ale that has a unique bitterness that is characteristic of it’s originality and brewing process. (I did the Sprecher tour!)
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 softale (188) - Michigan, USA - OCT 19, 2002
Pretty decent offering from Sprecher. I don’t know how they got a head like that in the picture because mine poured a very minimal one that dissipated quickly. Aroma is malty with some caramel notes along with some fruity (mostly apple) notes as well. Almost no bitterness whatsoever. Finishes a bit sweet with not to much lingering on the palate. Just another average ale in the end though.

feels like a weak mild or a bland brown.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2005 14 Oct, 02 - (7,2,7,2,13 - 3.1) Brown color with a quickly evaporating light tan head. Mild malt and light citrus aroma. Light brown sugar flavors with a touch of toastiness. A bit watery and sprity in mouthfeel. Finishes with an of bitterness. Noting exciting.
Rerate - Did not have the citric components and much smoother on the palate. In fact it was the palate that brought me back to rerate. As I tried it again I found the body to quite smooth and silky and thought that it deserved at least a 4. Found it to be a much better version that the the one in 2002.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - AUG 31, 2002
Medium-brown color, fairly clear and transparent, medium lasting head. Malty slightly nutty aroma; really lovely buttery nutty rich flavor, wonderful mouthfeel and ending; one of the best brown ales I’ve had lately, super-super drinkable.
