Blackish color with some deeper brown tones reaching through the edges, a finger high head of deep cocoa brown thick & dense fluffed foam that fades somewhat fast, lace in small sheets and spots that slowly drip back in. Smell of deep dark cherry and heavy roasted malts and black malts right away with some lighter tones of sweet chocolate and coffee, notes of molasses and alcohol showing as it warms. Taste is a bit more mellow then expecting, more like a very good stout then an Imperial, still nice though. Lightly chewy and dark roasted malts with sweeter hints in the chocolate, everything is captured up front and is over kinda quick, lingering with some nice coffee tones and light bitterness in the finish. Feel is pretty full at first but levels off and becomes almost to easy. Has a good creamyness throughout with a small kick at the midway point and has a milding finish of sweet roastyness and coffee lingering for a short time and some chewyness, which I really liked; good recovery. All in all, not a bad beer, as for mentioned, seems more like a very good stout then a Imperial, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt here. Sprecher likes to keep their beers drinkable and within certain reason of intrepretation of the styles they brew. Never too big, always balanced, and always enjoyable. This one is all that. Although, with a bit more complexity and length in body, I think it would be right on the money.

Pours opaque black with a small tan foamy head. Currant and roast malt aromatics. Roasty malt nose, followed by fruit ester flavors with caramel. Slightly peaty smoke finish with cocoa accents.

Had this on tap at Landmark. Big aroma, chocolate syrup and coffee, smooth creamy chocolate ,vanilla taste, distinct, but not full, pleasing chocolate cake aftertaste, not as bold or complex as the best Imperials but one of the biggest beers made by a Wisconsin brewer, who tend to stay on the timid side. I suspect the tap is much better than the bottle

Thanks Chuck for sharing this! A quickly dissipating creamy looking brown head atop a dark brown/black body. Molasses and roasted malts permeate the aroma. Very malty. Flavor is molasses or sorghum, honey, caramel, dark roasted malts with a hint of burnt malt. The palate is thick and bitter with a soft carbonation. This is a good local beer. Gee, I could walk to Sprecher if I really was up for it.

Black Coloring with Hot Chocolate Creamy Head. Malty Aroma with Wisps of Roasts. Creamy Mouthfeel...Nice Balanced Malt and Coffee Roast Background...Sweet Caramel Works Wonderful with the Creamy Feel Down Your Throat. Alcohol Warming Not Noticeable. Definitlly Not a Bad Boy Impy, But Makes Up For it In Balance and Drinkability. Very Nice.

had this right after their irish stout and I can already see this will be a step up from the pour. although the head disapaites quickly to a film along the edge of the glass. richer smoother and thicker than the irish, a nice smooth hint of carmel and chocolate. probably not the best imperial stout out there, but this is a pretty solid beer which I wouldn’t hesitate to someone starting out in darker beers
