thealcoholic (104), Hilbert, Wisconsin, USA Mar 29, 2001 This is a gift from GOD. fearnobeer1976 (19), peshtigo, Wisconsin, USA Mar 22, 2008 Had this at the brewery. When heard the alcohol content on this and then I tried it. I was blown away that you cannot taste the alcohol in it. Lots of flavor. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 6, 2005 Thanks to JPDIPSO for this. Pours obsidian with a 1-finger brown head. Aroma of chocoff, oaky roast malt, prunes, licorice, figs. The taste is roasty malty, with some chocoff, oak, anise, bourbon, and brown sugar flavors. Dense, complex palate and finish. This one is wonderful, a tad chewy but yet smooth and well balanced. This one is bigger and bolder than the CW Satin Solstice. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jul 13, 2006 Kind of odd the aroma. Raisins and other things. Other than that this is excellent. Has some chocolate, bittersweet I suppose. Really nice, thick and thasty. Suprisinglyh, not that hoppy for an imperial. I could drink this more often. Would only consider buying this and the barleywine in the giant liter bottles. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Dec 26, 2005 This poured a small sized head of fine to large sized mostly lasting brown colored bubbles that left behind an excellent lacing. The body contained no visible carbonation, was opaque and black in color. Its aroma contained notes of mild vinous dark malt mild coffee mild roasted malt . Its mouth feel is initially tingly biting malt with a lingering slightly tingly vinous palate and a smooth aftertaste. Its flavor contained coffee vinuous dark beer brown malts notes and was very tasty. An excellent beer that I would buy again. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Oct 16, 2003 Almost opaque except for the rediish tone around the bottom of the glassware, frothy but short-lived head and good lace. Aroma had a big molasses and caramel component with additional hints of raisin, black current, mocha, oakwood, and earthy yeast esters. Big sweet taste up front followed by a big acidic twang, almost citric in nature. Dry and bitter coffee-like finish added to the wonderful taste. Alcohol is completely masked under the malt tones. Very smooth and inviting mouthfeel. Extremely drinkable imperial stout, it's a beer in the style you could actually drink 2 or 3 in an evening. Complex enough not to become boring, unique within it's genre. Highly recommended from this stoutie! StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Mar 18, 2005 Updated: Oct 3, 2005Slight tweak to the original 3/18/2005 review. I had listed that it was my favorite stout to date - well, it’s still a good stout, but recent tastings have demoted it ever so slightly. Nevertheless, the review...
Thick ass pour, slowly falling out of the bottle when fresh. Older bottles have been thinner in viscosity. Black mud appearance with a small, tan head. Hops contribute to the aroma, as well as some floral nodes and roasted malt. Mostly thick feel on the palate. Very flavorful. Smooth, rich, chocolatey characteristics. Can’t pick up a trace of alcohol. Most likely the best beer I’ve ever had from Sprecher. doublebock (196), USA Apr 20, 2007 Deep black color, thick tan bubbly head. Can smell the high alcohol content, Fair carbonation. Taste is malty, licorice, coffee
