It has a much smoother (watery?) finish than I expected. A very tasty, but not very worldly Imperial. drismyhero (815), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 12, 2003 Black body with a very dark quickly dissipating head full of fairly large bubbles. Very grainy roasted aroma - totally encompassing. The flavor is particularly espressoey, but so much it lends itself to a bad, tinny finish. argo0 (7047), Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jul 24, 2003 Black body with small creamy brown head. Aroma is medium sweet, roasty coffee, cocoa, some vinous. Taste is medium sweet, roasty coffee, vinous, light cocoa, finishing very bitter coffee with a slight alcohol burn. Full body, though still a bit thin of what I expect from an Imperial Stout. Improves as it warms. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2003 All the roasted Malt I wished for, but a somewhat grainy mouthfeel. Harsh carbonation may be to blame, the body is 'medium' compared to many that make this style now. Great chocolate aftertaste and loew end ABV for an Imperial. Readily available and drinkable! | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 5, 2006 After their black lager I had high expectations for this one. Black pour with a moderate sized tan head. Head retention was solid as was the lacing, but by the end this was oil. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, very vinous. Lesser notes of darker fruits and roast. Flavor is the same with quite a bit of carbonation. Lacks the complexity of the better imperials, but has some similar attributes to the black lager. I liked the smaller one better.. damn. Roasty malt nose, followed by fruit ester flavors with caramel. Slightly peaty smoke finish with cocoa accents. Headbanger (1602), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 7, 2007 16oz bottle-A pitch black body with a small brown head which has an aroma of coffee, maple syrup, roasted malt, molasses, and chocolate. Taste of the same with a sweetness and very slight alcohol coming in on the back end. I think a little light but still a tasty Imperial. PilsnerPeter (2667), Flushing, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2007 Bottle 2006 with wax seal: Pours opaque black with a deep brown head that fades to a film. The aroma is very chocolatey and boozey with hints of licorice, peat and an alcohol hint. A bit thin for an Imperial Stout, but the flavor is ok. Lots of chocolatey flavors upfront. Decent malt depth in the flavor, with slightly salty notes of licorice. A bit boozey, with hints of wood in the middle, with a bit more depth in the finish with evident espresso bean roastyness, and dark chocolate. Nothing standout, but somewhat enjoyable.
