3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Picked up a couple single 16-oz bottles at Three Cellars in Franklin, Wisconsin. Pours a clear golden pale colored brew with a decent and well-retained off-white head that leaves behind some thick lacing. Aroma of golden grain pils malt, a hint of spice, light citrus, and soft lager yeast. When served cold, it has a more Bohemian Pils aroma. As it warms up, more of the Saaz hops comes out. Taste is medium bodied, plenty of noble hops, golden grain malt and a hint of citrus zest. Finish has a spicy nobel hop aftertaste comparable to an American Pale Ale followed by a lingering bitterness. A touch more nobel hop spice than I am used to which hides some of the Pils malt. Surely it can please both the pils and hophead drinkers alike. One of Sprecher’s better newest beers in quite some time.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Saaz hops are prominent in the aroma. Gold color, and heavily carbonated. Mildly bitter with lager yeast. Refreshing, and good enough to satisfy a pilsner fix. I would call this a Bohemian pilsner.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pouring this beer into a glass is beautiful as the carbonation rises to the top with create the perfect head. The color is a semi-clear, golden yellow with a fluffy off-white head. The scent is mainly yeast and wheat giving it an overall pilsner scent but with a twist of citrus.
The taste is rather bold and daring. The wheat and hops are on the frontline as they attack your taste buds. Slowly there is a sweetness that grows in your mouth however it finishes with a dry, crisp after taste. The texture is smooth which delivers a decent overall volume to the beer.
I’ve had quite a few Sprecher beers in my time and I can’t ever say I have ever had a bad one. This Summer Pils is a complex lager that you don’t often see in a summer beer. It is just as refreshing as it is interesting. Perhaps what it lacks is that traditional pilsner taste, but then again they do advertise this as “Czech Style.” As with most Sprecher brews, you get a full 16 ounces to enjoy in every bottle which always a huge plus!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour on tap at the Reserve Tasting at the brewery (Glendale, WI). Pours a rich pale straw yellow hue, touches of haze give it some life, glowing straw, with a bigger cakey offwhite head atop that stays larger, cakes, and laces well. Aromas are an earthy spicey hopping, gentle grass and florals, touches of pale malts, bready dough and yeast. A good liveliness. Initial is lighter bodied, bready crisp malts and dough up front, touches of dandelion and lemon. Middle is mellow sweetness, earthy hops, gentle spice, and mellow crisp bready malts. Finish is mellow sweetness, crisp, not dry, with some doughy malts, crackers, crusty bread. Gentle grass, earth, faint lemon. Pretty nice and fresh. Could use a touch more life on the hop side of things, but overall it’s quite drinkable and enjoyable.

Bottle from... Sam’s Quik Shop in Durham? Maybe? This was last summer and I’m just now entering my notes. Sort of a weaker Sam Adams Noble Pils. Yeah, I think I’m done with that description.

I was a bit leery of drinking something called "Summer Pils" on December 8th, but to my pleasant surprise it seemed reasonably fresh. Grassy and grainy, with a nice crisp finish. It did not get that canned corn flavor until after it warmed up a bit, so maybe this needs to served really cold...
