3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 starewich (118) - - JAN 19, 2013Pours an attractive brown that lets just enough light through to give it a glow. Flavor is nutty and woody, body is thicker than usual. Tasty but restrained, a nice change for Sprecher.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 superspak (1473) - Michigan, USA - APR 9, 2013
16 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 11/20/2012. Pours fairly crystal clear deep reddish copper color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, pear, apple, brown sugar, brown bread, light nuttiness, light roasted malt, floral, light pepper, and herbal earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt and fruity esters with light hops; very pleasant and inviting with solid strength. Taste of caramel, pear, apple, toast, brown bread, brown sugar, light nuttiness, floral, light pepper, and herbal earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, light fruits, brown bread, light pepper, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a bit. Very nice balance of malt/hop flavors with light fruity esters; with a fair amount of robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with and a lightly creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol i very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice bock. Good balance and robustness of malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 madvike (2077) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 28, 2013
Bottle - Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Nose is caramel, dark bread, a little milk, and some mild nuttiness. Taste is smooth, nutty malt, a little chocolate, and mellow roasted nuttiness. Finishes malty and a little bitter. Medium body with soft carbonation. Better than I expected.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 chinchill (579) - South Carolina, USA - FEB 19, 2013
16 oz. bottle served in pint glass. Poured nearly opaque but clear mahogany with a medium level of tan head. Some chocolate with toasted malts. Soft and smooth; medium body.
This "winter brew" lacks the "holiday spices" that might be expected, but that many beer aficionados will not miss. No faults detected, but somewhat lacking in interest.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Lemke10 (540) - Janesville, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 24, 2013
Pours a very dark amber color with a rather fast diminishing head. Has a heavy cocoa scent. Upon tasting there is a heavy taste of robust malts mixed with caramel and a coffee taste. Definitely a very heavy Bock that almost borderlines a Stout like taste. Not anything you will be able to drink fast. This beer has to be enjoyed slowly.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 alobar (2299) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 11, 2013
Pours a dark brown color with red highlights. Slight aroma of caramel and roasted malt. Mostly caramel flavor with hint of spice and roasted malt. Nice beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 andyhwcinc (1135) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 23, 2012
Enjoyed from bottle while dining at the Port Hotel in Port Washington, WI while eating a rich holiday dinner. Appearance is a rich dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma of holiday spice and caramel malt. Taste was pretty smooth with rich caramel and spice notes and a subtle smokiness. I thought this was pretty good, nothing too crazy for the style, but done very well.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 fallingleaves (32) - Colorado, USA - NOV 26, 2012
While a beautiful looking beer, Sprecher’s Winter Brew is a disappoint that lacks complexity. This beer tastes of roasted malts with a sweet after-tone that has a borderline disgusting lager tinge too it. I’ll stick to the Black Bavarian.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 dwm1034 (472) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 18, 2012
DRAFT at Jerrys in Germantown WI...pours Brownish amber with minimal head...but that could beer the beer tender and not the beer. Sweet carmel nose and taste...nice body and earthy bock taste...almost makes winter worthwhile...tasty
