Minimal, spotted lacing dots the glass. The aroma shows sweet biscuit and bronzed candy sugar malts, along with a bit of unfortunate, cardboard-like grain. Piny hops come off as mildly medicinal on the nose. The flavor is very much the same, with the added twist of some roasted cocoa, with the stale grain notes and weird, herbal pine fouling things up a bit. Medium-full and syrupy, the body is slightly under carbonated and overly alcoholic. Strange, and not really my cup of tea. dchmela (1476), Orlando, Florida, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 14, 2009 Bottle… Clear, dark mahogany ale with a small, creamy, white head. Pine, grapefruit and caramel stand out in the aroma. Medium to full-bodied with dancing carbonation. The flavor is a bit muted. I’m picking up caramel malt and a tad of chocolate malt, but the hops reign supreme in this one. Bitter, but not tongue scorching. Sort of a dull, lingering bitterness that carries over into the lengthy finish. Leaves my tongue with Novocaine-like numbness. Thanks to doublesimcoe for hooking me up! cmillward (442), Orlando, Florida, USA

Pours a dark red/brown, slightly translucent with a small head. Lots of dark caramel, some roast, a bit of dark fruit, heavy hop bitterness in the finish. This was a little rough, medium-to-low carbonation, quite tongue coating. dmschefke (371), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA

Pours a dark amber with thick tan head that sticks around for a while, plenty of lacing. Aroma of slightly roasted malt, caramel, and a nice balance of hops. Flavor was quite nice, matching the aroma, but had a bit more hops bite than I was expecting. Very nice, wish I had a bit more of this. nuplastikk (1261), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Poured a dark amber with off white head and good lacing. Some berry citrus-pine aroma. Very fresh and a hops bitterness that was a little edgy. Refreshing and good, I like the Seven gates a little better but I think it’s a dead heat. I’m liking this brewery more and more, keep it coming
