COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beyond the Gates Double IPA is for those of you who have been enjoying Seven Gates Pale Ale, and are ready for that next step. It’s brewed with a generous dose of Cascade and Centennial hops that mingle with the sweetness of Belgian caramel malts to yield a full-bodied ale. This assertive ale balances a rich malt flavor with a pronounced hop character. Beyond the Gates is finished with a generous dry-hopping of imported hops resulting in a very aromatic and flavorful DIPA.

Solid double. Nice citrus hop nose. Medium body, maybe on the heavy side. Palate has a bit of bite from the alcohol. -Fish!

Bottle from Mari’s. I can’t locate a bottle date so here’s hoping its fresh. Pours clear copper with a ton of carbonation, slight white film on top, uneven bubbles, light lacing. The aroma has a nice pine, resin hit followed by a nice citrus backbone. Good smelling beer. The taste has a nice bitter punch at the front of the tongue that has a longer duration than expected. There is a nice balance of grapefruit, and maybe some rye malt. A well balanced beer and a lot more flavorful than the ABV would suggest. Solid palate but boy does this dry, hoppy, bitter taste linger in your mouth. Well done!

Draft at Iron Hill / Springhouse event. Poured cloudy orangish amber in color with a medium sized beige head. Aroma of piney hops, with some grapefruit hoppy notes. hops come in pretty bitter, with flavors of grapefruit and grass. Lightly sweet, but the hops are more bitey and bittering. One of my favorite selections from Springhouse.

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2012 Served on-tap in the Tasting Room. This one has been dry hopped with some kind of hops. A - Pours clear orange with a small white head leaving minimal lace down parts of the glass. S - Smells of fresh citric hops, topical fruits and some sweet caramel malt. The dry hopping really helped this one out. T - Starts off with a mix of ripe tropical fruit and fresh citric hops. Caramel malts help break up the bitterness just enough to keep me interested. Finish is bitter with some lingering sweetness, doesn’t stick around for very long. M - Slick body with plenty of hoppy flavor and moderate carbonation. O - This one is much better than the regular version I am used to having. I wish it was like this all the time, I would definitely order it more thats for sure.

Draft at Tattooed Mom. Poured an unusual cloudy white amber. Only slight fizzy foam for a head. Finding some yeasty dough notes at the nose. Tasting some bruised lemon juice. Sugar cane. Straw. Interesting mix of hop notes. Dry citrus. Looks slight but has a decent medium body. Nicely dry at the finish. Started this without knowing the style. Thought it was a full wheat beer with some blonde ale qualities. Not seeing this as the billed double IPA much less an Imperial IPA. Still quite nice and way too drinkable. Very surprised I liked this beer so much.

Tap at CAH. Pours a hazy golden with a large foamy white head that laced. Aroma of smoked meats, nice hoppy notes and some bready malt. Flavor of light hops, smoked malts, bready character and grains. Surprised at the smokiness in this. It was put on a clean line at the CAH and this is the first pour form the keg. NOt bad...just not sure where the smoke is coming from.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of hops, flowers, citrus, crystal malt, and slight pine. Poured amber in color with a small, off-white head that diminished but lasted as a film on top of the beer. Cloudy. Slightly sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Small lacing. Flavor is heavily bitter and also medicinal. Tastes of hops, resin, pine, alcohol, grass, slight bamburg wood, and some medicine. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Medicinal, hop, slight Bamburg wood, pine, and resin finish is heavily bitter and dry.
