COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The story of the Seven Gates comes from rural Pennsylvania, not far from the Spring House Brewery. According to the legend, a mental asylum for the criminally insane stood in the middle of a dense forest. Surrounding the asylum were seven concentric gates, preventing would-be escapees. One terrifying night, the asylum caught fire, causing the inmates to flee into the menacing forest. As the tale goes, the former asylum residents were trapped by the seven gates, and eventually succumbed to the perils of the forest. The locals swear that the tormented souls of the inmates will torture anyone brave enough to attempt passage through the Seven Gates of the forest.

Spring House Brewing Co. honors the local legend by producing a terrifyingly delicious brew that is as familiar as a friendly forest, yet possesses a mysterious quality that will haunt you from the first taste. The enormous, hopped flavor and the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into each bottle will have you believing that the master brewer must be a direct descendant of the former asylum residents.

12oz bottle shared by largadeer. Pours clear golden with a small white head that fades. Smells like caramel and pale malt with slight resinous hops. Tastes a bit faded with caramel and pale malts, apple, and faint floral, earthy, and resinous hops. Boring mouthfeel. Damn it, I hate that this is from the ’burg and sucks. Oh well.

Draft at CAH Sh event for Philly Beer Week. Pours hazy dark straw w 1f ow head. Nose is big resiny hops, pale malt. Tastes very resiny, hoppy, citric, with tangerine, pale malt, and a smooth, not terribly complex, but eminently quaffable.

Copper, white fizzy head. Light toasty citric flavors with a faint swirl of toast. Caramel biscuit flavor rounds with a hint of citrus in the finish. Light bodied, soft carbonation, slightly offensive finish. This needs some serious help...

A: Pours a nice light golden hue nice tall egg white head with tons of sheet lacing. S: Simple biscuit aroma with hints of caramel, and grassy herbal hops. T: Simple flavor as well. Caramel malt with lots of herbal hops. Light citrus as well to round things out. M: Medium in body, good carbonation, hoppy bite in the finish. D: Pretty good. A nicely hopped pale ale.

Bottle. Pours a copper body with a white head. Malty skunk y metallic y tin aroma with some faint floral but more so dust y hop character. Flavor is thin and grain y with some light herbal tones. Thin and quaff-able. Eh.

On tap at the KSBF ’09. Listed as a Double IPA (but at 5.6%?). Poured a deeper golden color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of floral hops, some citrus, and some toasted caramel. Tastes of the same citrus, floral and some lighter caramel.
