Bottle; poured an amber-auburn color with a khaki head. Aroma of alcohol, fruit, caramel, and some earth; a lot of fruit. Hoppy flavor for the style; earthy and fruity. Not much sweetness. Solid beer.

Pours clear amber with a thin off white head with good legs. Nose is intense floral and grapefruit hops. There are pine hops notes, cream, a little charcoal. Quite bitter with a malt backbone. Reminds me of very good homebrew. Seems dry hopped.

strattonspeaks (113) - Springfield, Missouri, USA - NOV 14, 2013
Dark, rich copper pour with vanishing small off-white head. Faint caramel malt nose with subtle citrus hints. Not getting the big bitter hop flavor I anticipated....dominated by sweet malt notes with mild bitter undertones. Smooth. Medium bodied. Fair brew.

csaso (1380) - Missouri, USA - FEB 20, 2012
Tap - good size thick head, medium amber color, dry citrus hop aroma and flavor, mild grapefuiit flavor, fair malt balance - seems like more of an IPA than and Am Strong Ale

It poured a dark copper color with a tan head. The aroma was very hoppy with some toast and malt. The flavor was of toast, malt and with again, much hoppiness. A very good American Strong Ale.

This beer has huge hop aroma. This hop monster is bitter to the point of astringency, but it is at least paired with a strong malt flavor. It is not balanced at all, but I believe that’s the point.

Bottle at the Laid Back Brussels Tasting (Feb 9, 2008)
Clear, amber body with an off-white head. Nice lace. Aroma of hops, malts (caramel), mint ... great aroma! Heavily bitter, lightly sweet flaovur. Well balanced, smooth flavour. Ok complexity. Not too hoppy, but nice balance (in the same way as De Ranke Père Noël combines caramel and hops).

Draft at the brewery. Seems it is a variation of the Hop Monster they brewed last year, but the recipe is varied. Not sure where the lobster came in. Pour was a copper color with a white head that wouldn’t go away. Aroma was nice and hoppy. Flavor was of hops with a nice balance of malt and a nice medium mouthfeel.

This poured a dark copper color with a generous white head that lasted throughout. Very nice hop aroma with a subtle maltiness. Taste is dominated up front by the hoppiness, but is balanced on the finish by the malty richness. Mouthfeel is good and drinkability was pretty high. I enjoyed it very much.

Draft at Springfield Brewing Co. Dark copper color with a good light brown head that lasted. Very intense hop aroma underlaid by toast and malt. Good flavor of tast and malt dominated by the hops but, not completely. Nice thick mouthfeel but, not overly so. I really enjoyed this beer.
