Tasted this at the Esquire House, Glasgow (JDW) in September 2007. Cask, handpump dispense. Black ruby in colour with a thick creamy buff head. Strong overtones of black coffee and liquorice in the intense aroma. Creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts give a thick chocolate malt base with roast coffee beans, plain chocolate and liquorice. Slight prickle of dusty hop resins in the brief aftertaste. Finish is dry with liquorice notes still evident in the mouth. A decent session porter and well recommended.

Gravity cask at The Bree Louise. Pours black brown with no head. Holds a great mocha nose with lightly charred malts. Alright flavor, good roast character, notes of char, tobacco, faint burnt rubber, very faint bitterness. Light bodied with no carbonation. Mild sugars in the finish, very dry, nice roast. Not a bad beer, but the condition is poor.
