A pale golden beer with a fruity orange aroma and a dry peppery finish.
Maid Marian is brewed with Maris Otter Pale malt, Cluster hops, and Nottingham Ale yeast. Its refreshing flavour is from a combination of fresh oranges, coriander and exotic Grains of Paradise. These were a common ingredient in 18th century beers and used as a substitute for pepper which at the time was heavily taxed.

500ml bottle: opened on 11th Sep 2015 during the ’Shires Virtual Bar’ on the UK Ratebeer Forum. Poured at home into a UK pint sleeve. Insipid looking straw blonde, a thin white head on top. Wasn’t expecting such a pale looking brew to be honest. Orange hue to the aroma, slight spicy note or two as well, quite pleasant to be fair. The taste also has an orange feel within the mixed fruitlike flavour. Close your eyes and this is OK, open them and you wonder what the hell is in your glass. I drink with my eyes open: does Maid Marian? The finish has a dryness that belies the overall taste.

Cask from Old Hall Inn, Whitehough, Derbyshire. Classic golden amber colour. Sweet orange and grapefruit nose in taste. Touch of butterscotch in slightly oversweet finish. Still pleasant.

My favourite of the Springhead beers - love the orange hints, very drinkable... bit too drinkable! Always a treat when in Nottingham and much missed when in London!

Lush fruitiness on this one which I personally loved. Perhaps not for everyone but I could drink a number of these at any time!

A pale and slightly cloudy appearance, with a quick vanishing head. A scent of citrus, with a light orange tang. A dry ale with a hint of peppery aftertaste.

Cask at The Roebuck, Leek (Titanic) A clear golden colour with a fluffy white head. Aroma of grain, biscuit, orange and some apricot. Taste of fruity malt, some dry biscuit, yeast, orange and hints of peppery and grassy hops. Light bodied and a soft carbonation. A dry, grainy bitterness in the finish. Ok but uninteresting.
