3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from local Co-op. Blonde with a hint of orange. Clear and fizzy. Some malt and astringent in the aroma, with a hint of lemon and wheat. Tastes sweeter than expected and there’s a sulphurous hit near the end. Medium body. I think this used to be better?

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2016 Golden appearance. A little hazy with honey and malty taste but with sulphur hints. Citrus banana and apple flavours and mild but pleasant bitterness on palate. A little sweet. Good strength.Still overall very drinkable. Will try again.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask at The Water House (JDW), Durham, £2.45/pint.
Mid-amber in hue with a small, bubbly, white head. The aroma is quiet but does have some sweet, ripe fruitiness to it. The taste is sweet and full with loads of banana, peach, pear, orange and even strawberry flavours. It commendably doesn’t taste close to its full ABV although there is a certain warming bitterness to the finish. The malts flirt with getting sickly - I only had a half which I enjoyed but I suspect I’d struggle to drink a lot of this.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
On gravity at Conqueror arms in Ramsgate. Pours a clear golden color with a cream colored head. The smell is earthy, hint of sulfer, some grass. The taste is fruit, mild citrus, touch of mild caramel ending dry and crisp. Light/medium in body with fine carbonation...smooth and silky. Not complex but very drinkable.

Cask. Aroma of honeyed malt and grapefruit. Pours golden brown with lace top. There is a pleasing mix on the tongue of bread, citrus fruit and medicinal herbs. Full bodied on the palate with great dry finish on the palate. One to savour

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A clear deep golden colour with a creamy white head. Aroma of honey, some caramel, slight grapefruit and medicinal, herbal hops. Taste of honey, caramel, slight red berries, grapefruit, some orange pith, a little biscuit, maybe some cream and subtle grassy, herbal hops. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A dry, citrusy bitterness. Tastes more like a English IPA than a golden ale. Not very hoppy but really smooth. Not exciting but good.

Malt heavy aroma , with a thin malt taste, doesn’t drink like a golden ale, rather heavy tasting.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Sadly a bit irrelevant in this day and age. Reminds me of a 90’s ’real ale’ in that it is infinitely better than pub lager but lacking and watery and certainly not a patch on the new school craft ales available.
