This is a caramel coloured, easy-drinking bitter full of complex flavours derived from its 3 types of malt and 2 different hops. Also known as Rupert’s Beer.

Has a smooth quality which makes it easy to drink, some hops and some malts in the flavour.

Tasted this in the Failford Inn, Failford in January 2006. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thin white head. Strong dark berry note in the fruity aroma. Thin but creamy texture to the mouthfeel and good lacing. Mixed malts give a fiery gingerbread like base with jammy redcurrant fruit flavours present. Strong spicy hop resins compliment the malt well in the light bitter aftertaste. Finish is malty and surprisingly dry with woody briar notes full in the mouth. A decent session bitter and well recommended.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2014 Cask (Market Porter, London)
6 Simple, slightly pungent fruity hop aroma.
4 Deep reddy brown, small head.
6 Fruity, apple retronasals at first, then caramel. Little more after that.
3 Soft palate, carbonation low. Finish gently caramelly.
12 Adequate beer, but relying too much on the sweet caramalt, which I find a little boring.

Cask (handpump) at the Market Porter, Southwark on 2 August 2010. Copper colour. No head. Not a lot of condition. Mainly fruity. Berry fruit to the fore. Finishes with some dry malt. Not really my type of bitter - I tend to prefer more hoppy, bitter bite.

From the cask at the Turf Tavern Oxford - made a wonderful lunchtime pint. Nice deep colour and strong earthy malt and bitter taste. Cold day therefore cold beer so difficult to appreciate the full aroma.

15th August 2008. Clear brown beer. Toffeeish caramel malt start but this jars against a bittering finish.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Amber with a small white head. Apple aroma, suggesting it is a little on the young side. Taste is oddly grassy and not particularly nice. Some bitterness.
