A dark smooth beer with a rich aroma and taste of burnt toffee. It is brewed with traditional English ingredients but in the style of Belgian Trappist beers.

ALLOVATE (2407) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 9, 2014
Deepest brown and just shy of bright with a thin wafer of tannish foam. Rich nose reminiscent of strong mocha, dark chocolate, caramelised plum and fig, molasses, Bovril™ and Worcestershire sauce - lovely! Quite robust, flavoursome, meaty with a firm body and softly spritzy carbonation. Sweet front, treacly, chocolaty with plenty of dark stonefruit syrup coming into play. Quite rounded and penetrating with a length to it that is uncompromising. Delicious. Hints of cola, charred wood, chalky, mineral-like liquor, bitter herbs and roasted grain complete it. This is a wonderful beer. Feel like it’s one of those beers you just keep walking by and never purchase. Lovely drinking. A smashing ale! (50cL, BBE 10/14, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Bottle - chestnut brown with a thin light brown head. Okay retention and fairly good lacing. Aroma is very nutty and chocolatey with lots of roasted malt. Taste is lots of chocolate complemented by hints of coffee and cocoa. Lightly spicy, with caramel, roasted malt and light bitterness to finish. Medium body, prickly carbonation.

Bottle - Dark Brown in colour; hint of red. Malty; roasty malts, burnt toffee, some chocolate, smoke, hints of coffee. Fruity; dried fruits. Hoppy; slightly earthy hops. Sweet-bitter roast malty toffee and fruit throughout with a slight sour edge. Very drinkable.

Cask at wetherspoons, Streatham Hill. Pours dark brown with a thin off white head. Aroma is nutty with a lot of toffee. Medium body, mild carbonation. Sweet hazelnut and caramel with some choc in there too. Something you'd expect to find in a box of quality street. Dies have a hint if cherry sourness at the end. Not my cup of tea but tasty enough. OK. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
