A dark smooth beer with a rich aroma and taste of burnt toffee. It is brewed with traditional English ingredients but in the style of Belgian Trappist beers.

Drank this at the Bees Knees at the Springhead Brewery itself. This could be my lounge! Couldn’t wait to taste it but spent a few seconds on the smell...caramel, chocolate, toast, earthy, vanilla. the opened my eyes and had a look...black, clear, tan foam,. Then the first mouthful...medium sweetness, lightly bitter.... full body, creamy, soft carbonation, long finish, The best at the brewery...but my opinion!

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium off-white head, aroma rich with nutty malts: caramel, coffee, toffee, chocolate. Sweet malty taste much the same with a lasting lightly bitter finish, smooth and creamy but not enough to compare to real Belgian styles.

Cask at Wetherspoons; deep black small with a coffee and roast malt aroma. Quite pleasant taste coffee, winter berrie, with a slight sour background.

Cask@theimperial. Walsall. Dark Brown with beige head. Aroma is of dark Malta, not very strong though. Taste is of caramel, treacle and dark Malts. Medium bodied, would be better if it was a thicker body. A good beer but not a style I would drink normally.

Bottle pours deep brown with ruby tinges - thick beige head . aroma I found a touch metallic with malt underlay . medium carbonation . has all the appearance of a good belgian ale but the similarity stops there . taste is some malt and burnt sugar but not too sweet - a hint of toast in the finish .it is not bad at all - could quaff a few but lacks the body , punch and alcohol of a belgian ale . would love to try an uprated version
