A dark smooth beer with a rich aroma and taste of burnt toffee. It is brewed with traditional English ingredients but in the style of Belgian Trappist beers.

Drank this at the Bees Knees at the Springhead Brewery itself. This could be my lounge! Couldn’t wait to taste it but spent a few seconds on the smell...caramel, chocolate, toast, earthy, vanilla. the opened my eyes and had a look...black, clear, tan foam,. Then the first mouthful...medium sweetness, lightly bitter.... full body, creamy, soft carbonation, long finish, The best at the brewery...but my opinion!

Bottle from the brewery. Appearance - dark chestnut with some copper tinges. Lovely head. Nose - toffee going into liquorice. Taste - burnt toffee as the description says. Maybe honeycomb and chocolate biscuits Palate - medium bodied with a crunchy texture and a nicely balanced finish. Overall - good beer.

500ml bottle courtesy of Ashton McCobb. Pours dark red brown, thick, long-lasting off white head. Aromas are nuts and toffee, light chocolate. Taste is sweet, but with a light herbal bitterness. Clean finish. Best I’ve had from here.

Bottle - Dark Brown in colour; hint of red. Malty; roasty malts, burnt toffee, some chocolate, smoke, hints of coffee. Fruity; dried fruits. Hoppy; slightly earthy hops. Sweet-bitter roast malty toffee and fruit throughout with a slight sour edge. Very drinkable.

Cask at wetherspoons, Streatham Hill. Pours dark brown with a thin off white head. Aroma is nutty with a lot of toffee. Medium body, mild carbonation. Sweet hazelnut and caramel with some choc in there too. Something you'd expect to find in a box of quality street. Dies have a hint if cherry sourness at the end. Not my cup of tea but tasty enough. OK. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Dark red brown with n off-white head. Aroma of dried fruits and burnt sugar, a little chocolate. Light-bodied. More chocolate in the taste than suggested by the aroma, dried fruit, singed toffee.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear deep ruby, with a smallish off-white head, which lasts well and leaves a little lacing. Faint leafy hops and hazelnut aromas are dominated by strong burnt toffee. Leafy, slightly fruity hops up front give way to strong burnt toffee and savoury hazelnut in the mid-palate. A touch of espresso bitterness joins these flavours in the finish. Whilst burnt toffee is the dominant characteristic of this beer, its more savoury flavours keep it nicely in balance, making for a pleasant old ale.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium off-white head, aroma rich with nutty malts: caramel, coffee, toffee, chocolate. Sweet malty taste much the same with a lasting lightly bitter finish, smooth and creamy but not enough to compare to real Belgian styles.
