Pours a deep burnished copper color with a smallish beige head that slowly recedes but never dissipates. Smells of brown sugar, caramel, a bit of dark pitted fruit, some earthy hops and a bit of an alcohol presence. The flavor is a bit on the sweet side with lots of dark sugar and caramel malt. A light bit of cherry and plum fruitiness mixed with an earthy hop flavor and a touch of ethanol. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet sugary syrupy mouthfeel. Not to shabby of a barleywine. This is the second time I’ve had this and I’m glad I did because I remember not caring for it the first time. Maybe a batch or bottle variation?

22 oz bottle from the Beer Store. Pours a reddish brown, mahogany color with a thin tan cap. Typical barlywine scents, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, dark fruits as well a bit of booze. Taste is dominated by the malty sweetness with brown sugar notes. Some bittering hops balance it out. Full, warming palate. I still have not met a Barlywine I didn’t like and this was no exception.

Got this bottle from stangger (jeff). Nice aroma of fruits, sweetness, and a sweet taste. A good barleywine, not too overpowering.

22oz bomber with spookgolds. Cloudy amber pour with a white head that dissipates quickly. Sweet malt, caramel aroma with notes of scotch. Malty, sweet, strong alcohol presence that burns lightly as it goes down. Nice example.

puboflyons (2114) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - DEC 31, 2011
It pours a medium amber tone with copper-red hues in the light. Thin head that lasts awhile and cloudy in character. Plenty of aroma with sweet malts, meaty fruits like pear, and a crisp, clean hoppy backdrop. Very typical of a barleywine. The body is thick and heavy with a nice creaminess as well. The taste is barleywine pucker-up pungent with less fruity character in the taste and a pleasantly dry finale. A decent barleywine.
