Our tribute to German brewing in St. Louis. Unfiltered (of course), dark amber in color. The yeast, from Munich, produces the clove spiciness and subtle, slightly sweet banana character.

On draught at the brewery.
The beer pours a deep hazy golden with a smallish head.

The aroma is lemony with some banana. It’s got just a touch of the style-signature spiciness and a very faint hint of sulphur.

The flavor is enjoyably spicy with a low sweetness (at least to style) it’s a little yeasty with a light touch of malt richness. The fruitiness is somewhat subdued but there is a bit of lemon and banana in there.

A cool interpretation of the style,

On tap @ Square One. Hazed dark orange pour with a white head. Aromas of banana, bread, and lots of dough. Honey, biscuit, and some light floral hops. Hints of clove and bubblegum. There’s a nice sweet banana and bubblegum character on the tongue. Spicy clove, some honey, and a light orange zest flavor. Good biscuit and dough, as well.

Sampled along the RBSG 2014 bus tour. Light banana and fruit in the nose. Hazy, dark yellow pour with a red tint, no head. Flavor is grainy and seems to lack much yeast character. Fault free but I really am missing most yeast character that I expect in a German Weizen

Draft on tap at the brewery (St. Louis, MO). RBSG 2014 Friday Bus Tour. Pours a amber golden hue, a bit darker and decent haziness in the body overall. Frothy whitish head is loose and bubbly, small ring laces minimally overall. Nice hazy orange amber color. Aromas are a bit yeasty, gentle metallic and earthy twang meets some flaked wheat, touches of clove and gentle yet not driving fruity banana. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, a bit fuzzy and dry. A touch of undercarbed with gentle bready malt, gentle carmelized feel meet some banana bread, touches of fruit and mellow clove. Middle is a bit more fruity but not sweet. Gentle lemon meets the babnana, a bit spicy and clovey on the backend. Some flaked wheat, gentle faint grainy rustic feel, gentle bubblegum. A bit cleaner and easier drinking than a bunch of Weizens that overdo it a bit on the fruit character. A touch more body with some muted softness would be nice. Solid. A think that touch of red wheat makes this a touch more doable for me and a bit more crushable.

This was very cloudy orange with a small even bubbled head. There is big juicy banana in the nose and a bit of bready malt. It’s pretty dry and the banana really pops once you taste it. This is very fresh and tasty with a lot of orange citrus and a bit of spice. It is light bodied with medium carbonation. The finish is very mild with just a touch of bitterness. This is a really nice take on the style.
