This looks to be filtered - pours bronze with a nice dense tan head. The aroma was faint due to the beer being serve too cold. There is some light earth and rich toffee / caramel malt. Medium body with some prickly carbonation that stays hidden until the finish. The flavor starts with some earthiness, lightly charred toffee, anise, brown sugar and molasses. The finish has more anise and pepper - it is a bit sharp with some metallic astringency. This is an enjoyable beer, but definitely strays off of style.

Jun 8, 2008 Tap at the brewpub. The body was deep brown and copper with a khaki head. The aroma was light roast with some bubblegum and bread crust. There was also some earthy green beans. The taste was roasted with caramel and iced tea. Some notes of light stone fruit. A tangy finish.

May 28, 2008 Draught at Square One brewpub. Dark brown with thin tan head. Aroma of assorted fruits, sweet malts, chocolate, caramel and alcohol. Flavors include fruit, nuts, raisons and light chocolate. Smooth consistency with a light dry finish. A solid ending to my sampler.

Apr 29, 2008 (draught at brewpub) nearly black with very little head. Aroma of yeast and dark fruits. Flavor was dark fruits, alcohol, sweet malt, some alcohol.

Apr 13, 2008 At brewpub. Bit metallic. "That’s just wrong,"my friends said. Not so much wrong as a bit off. Couldn’t finish the whole thing. Served in wrong glass.

May 13, 2007 Sampled at the Heritage Festival. Labeled under "Belgian Dubbel" from Augusta. Filtered and amber. Soapy off-white head. Sweet nose with notes of fruity raisins. Floral aromas. Medium bodied with a sticky bready flavor. Sticky and grainy. Off-dry cloying finish. I found it enjoyable.
