This ale is rich and well balanced with an emphasis on the five varieties of malt used to produce this British mainstay.

Half pint glass at the brewpub. My favorite of the three beers I had on this visit. Medium to dark brown in color. A very nice nutty nose with brown sugar. Feel was nice. Flavor also lead with nuts. Caramel, brown sugar, molasses, maple, and some hop notes underneath. Sweet and flavorful. This made for a very pleasant beer on a hot July night.

Draft at the brewpub, the current cask offering. Pours a clear, deep brown color with a small beige head. Notes of nuts, tobacco, caramel malts, wet tea leaves, brown sugar, toast, earthy hops, wood, and cardboard. The cask temperature was higher than normal, seeming just as warm, if not warmer, than the air outside on a warm night over Memorial Day weekend. Still, there is a solid, interesting beer here and Im interested to try it again on nitro to see the differences.

Draught pint at the brewery in a shaker. This beer was typical of the style. It had a sweet body with a hop character overlaying it. It was easy to drink but very typical of its style.

Filtered with a brown hue. RIng of cream colored head. Nutty molasis and bready malt aromas. Medium bodied with a medium malt roast. Toast and cocoa. Caramel and chocolate notes. Nutty. Mildly sticky. Mild effervescence. A tad thin. Subtle hop finish. Decent.

Sampled at the brewery. Tastes of roasted carmel malt, with little hops and a sweet finish. Nothing spectacular.

Nice clear dark brown color with medium head retention. Roasted malt and slight nuttiness on the aroma. Taste is roasty malt with nutty graininess and a touch of roasted caramel. Finish is light hops and a slightly sour lingering aspect. An okay beer.
