Our single malt Scotch Ale is truly a big beer! We use one variety of malt, a portion of which was smoked at our brewery. It has a rich caramel and toffee fullness, balanced by a mild hop bitterness.

Draught@One Pint Pub, Helsinki. Deep copper color, off-white head. Overly sweet flavor with syrup and malts. Definitely not my thing.

On tap at the brewpub. Neither the wife nor I are generally scotch ale drinkers, but we both liked this. Hints of toffee and peat, a touch of smoke that kept it from being as sweet as many scotch ales. creamy with a mildly warming finish. Nice.

Keg (HBF2009)
Sheep farm aroma. Rich red, small head. Massively milky sweet maltiness, some grains, toffee ice cream (spotted by Alex, thanks, and so obvious in retrospect). Adequate, but not grabbing me.

Darught 0.2L glass tasted at HBF 2009. Pale beige head. Roasted sugar in the nose. Slightly coppery golden colour. Buttery and toffeish taste.

(Draught@HBF2009) Slightly hazy reddish brown with a small, tanned head. Greasy strawberry-cheesecake-ice-cream-diacetyl-toffee aroma - pretty much like Beer Hunter’s Tyrni Lambic. Flavor of strawberry and toffee, with sweetish-caramely malt and very little hops. Medium body, soft carbonation. An interesting scotch ale rendition: on the lighter and drier side in general, but the ice-cream aroma was pretty interesting.

Draught@HBF2009. Ruby red color, small off-white head. Very, very toffeish aroma. Toffee, sour milk, fudge in the flavor. Tiny hops in the aftertaste. Probably quite close to Scotch ale, but not something I would like to drink in large quantities.

Draught@HBF2009. Ruby amber colour, beige head. Aroma is butterscotch, some fruits, nuts and berries. Flavour is berries, butterscotch, fudge, and some slight notes of sour wood. Some quite interesting notes as well.

BeerandBlues2 (12198) - Escondido, California, USA - JUL 25, 2008
Draught at Square One. Pours clear tawny with a small, fizzy, off-white head, mostly diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, nutty), light hops (flowers), average yeast (earth) with notes of light alcohol and honey. Medium bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness.

Indra (2711) - Suburbia, Kansas, USA - JUN 7, 2008
Draught at the brewpub. Sweet, malty, toffeeish aroma, perhaps some very faint peat smoke, along with a hint of dried, dark fruits. Deep brown in color with a very thin head. Flavor is almost entirely malty, dark, toasty and sweet, with a hint of black bread, cola, and finishing with suggestions of raisin and berry, finally some faint hoppy bitterness noted here as well. Smooth, thin palate, body is medium-full. Rather easy-going rendition, not a lot of complexity to be found.
