Outer Darkness Russian Imperial Stout aged in High West Whiskey Barrels.

McNeillR (1632) - SCOTLAND - MAR 11, 2013
Smooth chocolate nose and swarthy brown head with a gleam in the light. Dashes of dark chocolate the initial taste, a good palate coating of milky malt evened out by a charred backbone and moreish imperial bitterness. The palate eventually leans itself to a black and white ’aged imperial’ side of things. Really need sweet alcohol burn on the finish, like boozy Coco-Pops.
Extremely moreish from start to finish - just left of center for an imperial in the right places, really engaging initially and curveball sweet milkiness throughout with the booze burn in the shadows. Superb.

Bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Deep opaque brown body with garnet highlights, medium dense tan head. Inky nose with huge roast and hints of smoke. Roasty body, rather dry with coffee beans, chocolate liqueur, and some syrupy dark fruit/plum. Good, but not too exciting.

750ml bottle (Snow@ChrisO)
Christ this is hot! Pure booze coming off the glass. Looked great, but the wanky "Borat"-style label (and the fact that the aroma has already pissed me off) means I just don’t want to give it a 5. Taste has the predictable hot alcohol burn that dominates everything. Shit.

Bottle at ChrisO Snow Tasting, thanks to Jan. It pours darkest brown (near black) with a small tan head. The nose is roasted malt, toast, dark fruit, bourbon, vanilla, coffee and dark chocolate. The taste is rich-roasted malt, charcoal, espresso coffee, oak, vanilla, toasted coconut, chocolate and warming alcohol with a dry, toasty finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Flavoursome, smooth and well-balanced. Tasty.
