Bottle. Pours a glassy amber with a lively body and an ample white head. Nose is orange rind soaked in grapefruit juice. Flavor is honey-soaked grapefruit, oats, and orange rind. Thick on the tongue. Good beer.

Poured from a 750ml bottle. Big hop nose, citrus, and floral. Noticeable diacetyl. Solid malt notes with a great balancing hops. Really not digging the diacetyl.

On tap. Pours a light ruby color with a large creamy canvas head. Notes of apricots, caramel sugar, and sweet breads. Very well balanced and not overly astringent. Me gusta.

pours a disappearing light tan head and amber color. Aroma is resin/herbal, slight medium malt. Taste is resin/herbal/tea hops bite, secondary light/medium malt-slight caramel.

0.5 L - cask version served at the downtown SLC brewery - labeled at "Crest Trail" pale ale, but according to RB it is an alias of hop riot - pours a faintly hazy medium yellow color with smallish pure white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma has some citrusy hops, notes of pear, apple, and raspberry, faint note of lightly toasted malt. Flavor is mildly hoppy, bit of malt and touch of light caramel. Finish is just to the bitter side of malty. Palate is a bit watery (not sure if this is at all affected by being the cask version). This is overall alright. The fruityness in the aroma seems a bit out of place, but again this may be affected by being on cask. I wouldn’t run out for another one of these, but it is decent.

Draft at the brewpub. Nice bronze color with appealing head. Well defined but subtle green hop aroma. Drinks with a delightful hoppy character, quintessentially American in style. Well balanced and certainly sessionable and refreshing. Quite good. (#3760, 12/2/2009)

Appearance: Medium golden with a nice white head with some lace left in the glass
Aroma: Citrus hops
Taste: Smooth drinking beer with citrus and floral hops. This is a good clean beer.

On tap at Squatter’s, Salt Lake City. Not on the menu, but recommended by the bartender. Sparkling golden-red with a large, loosely packed white head. Rather large spruce/pine nose is very pleasant. Earthy hop flavor - not much pine translates - with some sweet malt/cookie notes, hay and dry straw. Could use a bit more hops, would be truly top notch.
