Small glass at yardhouse. Thick white head, massive lacing, clear deep gold color. Piney/grapefruit nose. Heavy malt well-balanced with substantial aroma and understated bitterness. Thick mouthfeel and noticeable alcohol taste. Overall strong showing for a IIPA.

Bottle from Total Wine, Henderson, NV
Copper to amber color, hazy, with medium sized creamy head. Sweet aroma, some malt, candies and cough syrup. Nice malt flavor, lean mouthfeel, with strong bitterness but not too much hop quality.
Pleasant.

penstemon (224) - Washington, USA - OCT 29, 2012
Pours deep amber with a quickly dissipating white head. Aroma of grapefruit and caramel malt. Tastes of caramel, grapefruit, mandarin. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel almost like custard. Awesome palate. Not as bitter as I was expecting from a DIPA, and not as much crisp hop aroma/flavor in the balance as I would have liked, but still a solid tasty beer.

Poured from 12oz bottle. Pours a hazy, slightly thick, burnt orange. Aroma is of hops and maybe some grains. For a Double IPA that advertises being 75 IBUs this beer is not too bitter at all! Slightly sweet with a small taste of alcohol. Medium body, thick texture, not very carbonated with a lasting aftertaste very good, i loved it!!

Pine and hops, but not overly hoppy. Malty and a little sweet for my taste. Citrus flavors also pretty lacing.

More on the malty than the hoppy end but easy to like. Resinous hop aroma but it doesn’t carry over in the flavor.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2013 On tap at Angel’s Trumpet Ale House, San Diego; served in a tulip glass. Great lacing, decent hoppy aroma. Flavor is hop forward, of course, with a dry finish. Very drinkable, however. Creamy on the palate.

12 oz. bottle in Baton Rouge. Pours an amber color with a medium sized foamy white head. The aroma was sweet malts, dank hops, citrus, light resin and some oxidation. The flavor was more malt forward, caramel, citrus, resin, and oxidation. Medium plus body, not as hoppy as I’d like. I’m not sure how fresh this was.

12oz bottle. Heavy piney citrus hop aroma. Caramel butterscotch notes. Sweet malt with a heavier body outweighs the hops for an impy.almost under attenuated. Is not exactly to style as its way too malt forward but still good
