Big thanks to Douglas88 for this at the Pgh RB gathering 12/09. Please forgive my numbers on this perfectly on style brew. I rate by how much I enjoy them and this is one of my least fave styles. Tho not a fan of this style, everybody at the gathering said it was a really good DIPA. If by really good we mean it is really offensive to me, then, it was really good. Orangy yellow in color. Pine and tree sap aroma. No head. Big terrible bitter brush hog across my tongue. Just plain rude to the immature inexperienced palate of a lager lover. Mouth coating oily feel that leaves me wanting a lindemans framboise, heheh. What else can be said? Just nastily on style. If you like this style, better arrange a trade with douglas88, you will not be sorry!

Bottle thanks to douglas88 who is trying to single handly hook Squatters up with as many rates as possible. I think they should make a douglas stout or something like that. Pours out a orange amber topped with a tan head. Aroma is of sweet caramel, rich malts, and floral hops. Taste much of the same sweetness and light hop bitterness. Not bad for a Utah beer.

Bottle, from a Cost Plus beer pack. Poured a murky orange/amber color with a frothy off white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, orange, and earth/pine. Flavor was well balanced for the style and quite drinkable; dangerously so. Caramel up front and it fades to reveal some citrus and earthy hops. Not the most flavorful or hoppy for the style, but definitely one of the more drinkable.

Courtesy of douglas88. Pours copper with faint haze, off white head and some dandy sheet lacing. The aroma begins with a touch of grapefruit and then quickly slides into pine and then nearly tree sap with a sense of malt sweetness in the background. The taste begins with a short sweet malt pulse becoming citrus with grapefruit as well as growing pine hop bitterness. To midway and toward the finish both the grapefruit and pine like hop bitterness come to a zenith and then slide down to the finish leaving grapefruit and tangelo hop flavor with a bit of pine bitter hop zing hanging around deep into the after taste. Solid DIPA delivering an abundance of bitterness and some hop flavor, cheers!

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2011 ( 12 oz bottle thanks to bu11zeye) Pours clear light amber. Nose of grapefruit citrus hops, sweet bread, honey and a tinge of chlorine. Taste is caramel, oily body, orange peel, sweet bread and extremely well balanced between hops and malt. A little pine too but not overtly bitter. It’s a little syrupy, but overall a very good DIPA.

12oz bottle courtesy of BOLTZ7555 – thanks J! Pours hasy amber with a 2 finger creamy off-white head that leaves delicate lacing. The nose is citrus, toffee and pine. The taste is floral hops, sweet citrus, caramel and tart grapefruit. Medium mouthfeel. Solid DIPA. Thanks again Jason!

Small tan head, retention is fair with nice lacing. Hazy orange color. Nice hoppy nose, pine citrus and some melon notes. Medium bodied, lightly resiny, good carbonation. Juicey hop flavors with a mild malt backing. Dry finish and a lasting bite. Good stuff! Thanks to my friend footbalm for this one!

tennisjoel (1138) - Rochester, Minnesota, USA - NOV 6, 2009
UPDATED: NOV 8, 2009 Served in a bottle at the SLC airport Squatters location. Cool label idea with the amish farmer with the oversized hop stabbed by a pitchfork. Copper body with a 2 finger head. Strong pine and grapefruit scents. Smooth finish on the palate. Very drinkable. Alcohol barely noticed. A good effort from Squatters.
