Welcome to the biggest beer Squatters Pub Brewery has ever made! A Russian Imperial Stout is one of the most intensely flavored beers a brewer can create. The combination of rich roasted barley, oak, molasses and licorice root combine to create an utterly unique and complex imperial stout experience. We had to mash in twice to get our starting gravity of 27 plato (1.108 specific gravity). We boiled 3.5 hrs to enhance caramelization and used molasses and licorice root at the end of boil. Outer Darkness is aged with oak, has 65 ibu’s and bottle conditioned. We hope you have as much fun drinking it as we did making it. Please share with another and drink wisely.

Bomber (bought in 2013) - pours like motor oil - black, viscous, thick and silky. Thick brown frothy head that thins out but still coats my glass. Good layered aroma of roasting coffee beans, melting chocolate, burnt toast, warm alcohol and dark ripe fruit. A mouthful reveals bitter roasted grain, dark chocolate, molasses, espresso, warm booze and peaty earth. Well made

750ml bottle pours oily dark black with a finger of foamy tan head. Nose is roasty bitter cocoa, tar, ash, charred nutty dark chocolate and molasses. Palate is thick, big roasty molasses and dark fruit, ashy roast, some vanilla. Finishes with pretty well balanced bitterness, lingering vanilla and baker’s chocolate. Solid.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is black (utterly opaque, flashlight tested). Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (roasted grain, chocolate), with light notes of vanilla, tobacco. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Wow, two completely opaque stouts in a row, what are the odds? This one’s a bit better than the River North, certainly in the mouth, where the flavor balance is quite drinkable. Not particularly imperial or exciting, but decent enough.

On draft at Craft and Growler. Poured black with a khaki head and tons of lacing. Taste of dark roasted malts, boozy, oak, vanilla esters, and molasses. Average carbonation, full bodied with thick texture. Fantastic brew!

Large bottle with commonshawn and rosskyle. Poured into snifter glass. Blackish. Head was shy initially but picked up a little bit...still smaller than anticipated. Aroma has chocolate and roasted malt qualities plus a lot of peat action. Taste is mostly bitter with the sweetness of chocolate disappearing. Bourbon and peat characteristics are prevalent. Definite alcohol presence. Not a heavy finish or mouthfeel but it’s clearly a stout. Typically not an imperial stout fan but this one is pretty decent. I would appreciate more sweetness.

Big bottle from Haskells with commonmac and rosskyle. Nearly black with fairly smooth tan head. Strong sweet roasted malt nose. Roasted and dry. Dry dark chocolate bitter and roasted malt. Coffee, chocolate, a bit creamy but not as sweet as it smelled. Coffee and bitter chocolate aftertaste lasts. A good beer but not really my style . They do that one note very well though.
