Welcome to the biggest beer Squatters Pub Brewery has ever made! A Russian Imperial Stout is one of the most intensely flavored beers a brewer can create. The combination of rich roasted barley, oak, molasses and licorice root combine to create an utterly unique and complex imperial stout experience. We had to mash in twice to get our starting gravity of 27 plato (1.108 specific gravity). We boiled 3.5 hrs to enhance caramelization and used molasses and licorice root at the end of boil. Outer Darkness is aged with oak, has 65 ibuís and bottle conditioned. We hope you have as much fun drinking it as we did making it. Please share with another and drink wisely.

Love this RIS. Not completely over the top, something I could drink a lot of because itís almost íbalancedí for a RIS. All the typical RIS flavors etc... but also a little bit of hops, maybe fuggel or smething else English.

Aroma: Sweet, coffee roast, licorice, molasses. Subtle Dark fruit.
Flavor: Sweet/brown sugar/burnt sugar. Licorice. A little roast, and a little raisin. Subtle allspice-like spicy flavor. Sweeter finish. Bitter aftertaste.
Warming alcohol. Substantial mouthfeel--but not really heavy for the style.

On draft at Public House Las Vegas. Dark brown pour with almost no head. Aroma is very strong malt. Almost smells barell aged. Tastes the same. Tons of roasted malts and what tastes like bourbon. But itís not. This beer is intense! Palate dances from malts to sugar toa slight coffee/hop finish that lingers.

Taster at RBWG 2014 grand tasting - thanks to the person who shared this! Dark brown color, slightly red. Thin khaki head. Dots of lace. Dark fruit, some light roast, good dark chocolate. Moderate sweet taste, bigger bitterness. Light alcohol heat. Smooth soft, lighter carbonation. Solid, kind of a more robust imperial stout.

Delicious imperial stout courtesy my Secret Santa. Thanks! Aroma was big and thick. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, licorice and a slight woodiness. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a thin tan film for a head. Taste was nice. A little chalky, but very full. The licorice plays a big part in this beer (which I love). Strong dark chocolate and roasted malt hit the mouth with a big bitterness. Turns sweet mid sip with milk chocolate and notes of oak coming out. Finish was a little weak and didnít leave much lingering flavor other than a slight coffee bitterness. All in all very solid beer. Medium carbonation

Pour is black with a thin tan head. Aroma is very sweet and malty with notes of molasses, smoke, and licorice. Flavor is a bit more subtle with the licorice and roasted malts coming through stronger. Some oak and dark fruits in the background. A bit ashy/smokey as well.

Had at the BGoA Winter tasting. Pours dark brown with no head. Roasty and slightly dour. Off a bit. Hoppy. No roast or chocolate. Decent.
