Welcome to the biggest beer Squatters Pub Brewery has ever made! A Russian Imperial Stout is one of the most intensely flavored beers a brewer can create. The combination of rich roasted barley, oak, molasses and licorice root combine to create an utterly unique and complex imperial stout experience. We had to mash in twice to get our starting gravity of 27 plato (1.108 specific gravity). We boiled 3.5 hrs to enhance caramelization and used molasses and licorice root at the end of boil. Outer Darkness is aged with oak, has 65 ibuís and bottle conditioned. We hope you have as much fun drinking it as we did making it. Please share with another and drink wisely.

Gold foil bottle, still black pour, aroma has really nice roast malt and chocolate , flavor is Hershey syrup, espresso, earthy toasted malt, no bite whatsoever, deceptive beer

Large bottle with commonshawn and rosskyle. Poured into snifter glass. Blackish. Head was shy initially but picked up a little bit...still smaller than anticipated. Aroma has chocolate and roasted malt qualities plus a lot of peat action. Taste is mostly bitter with the sweetness of chocolate disappearing. Bourbon and peat characteristics are prevalent. Definite alcohol presence. Not a heavy finish or mouthfeel but itís clearly a stout. Typically not an imperial stout fan but this one is pretty decent. I would appreciate more sweetness.

Big bottle from Haskells with commonmac and rosskyle. Nearly black with fairly smooth tan head. Strong sweet roasted malt nose. Roasted and dry. Dry dark chocolate bitter and roasted malt. Coffee, chocolate, a bit creamy but not as sweet as it smelled. Coffee and bitter chocolate aftertaste lasts. A good beer but not really my style . They do that one note very well though.

Caramel, licorice, molasses, and an almost smokey smell. Thick black color with a beige head. Caramel, licorice, and molasses notes in the taste. A tiny bit of toasty oak as well. Itís smooth, but I couldnít drink more than one on a sitting. Great beer overall!

Bottle from 2012, thanks to Bacterial. Pours inky black, large creamy brown head, slowly dissipates leaving nice clingy lacing behind. Aroma is quite roasty, chocolate truffles, molasses, tobacco and a touch of anise. Flavor is light plus sweet, medium bitter, rich and flavorful, lots of chocolate and molasses, anise is fortunately muted, some tobacco as well, dark almost burned roasty malts. Not a lot of acidity, which is nice. Lingering molasses and anise in the mouth. Not getting a lot of wood aging influence, but a really nice beer nonetheless. Fullish body, creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle from trade with StFun, cheers buddy! Not sure how old, but it was from a cellar cleaning so several years I guess. Black with a brown head. Aroma: honey, roasted, milk chocolate, licorice, wine gums. Taste: cocoa, roasted, salty licorice, milk chocolate, wine gums. Full-bodied. Tasty with round flavors from the aging I would guess.
