4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 dnstone (1986) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JAN 31, 2012Deep sweet roasty choco-roasty aroma. Deep black in color with excellent lacey tan head. Thick, full bodied, sweet malty, coffee-roasty with a choclate finish...I’d put this among my favorite stouts!

UPDATED: MAY 15, 2013 Bomber from trade with crajun. Bottled 3/27/12. Pour pitch black with a small head that fades quickly. Grabs the glass nicely. Aroma is a little faint for an RIS but really good. Fudge, dark roast, tobacco, raisins, light licorice, caramel, and light alcohol. Taste is very roasty, even slightly burnt. Lots of fudge and caramel too. Light sweetness and moderate bitterness. Finish is smooth and creamy with some tobacco and light licorice too. Light warming and very light burn. Pretty thick and creamy mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good RIS that should age very well too.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 drjay44 (2131) - Salida, Colorado, USA - MAY 13, 2013
25 oz. bottle. Bottled 11/26/12. Pours a thick, well retained beige head, with slight lacing, over a black brown (SRM 40) body.....nose is heavy coffee, chocolate, hints of plum, raisin......taste is coffee, chocolate, light plum, raisin, finishing with a roasted coffee, hop bitterness.....mouth feel medium, slightly chewy, sticky, alcohol heat present, carbonation low. This is a typical Imperial Stout with all the usual suspects in both aroma and flavor. It is somewhat light on complexity as the heavy roasted malts dominate overmuch. A shorter boil and the use of more caramel/crystal malts would have been helpful. A final small complaint, the O.G. at 27 Plato is 1.115 not 1.108. BJCP 8/3/15/4/7
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 savnac (2064) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - APR 23, 2013
750ml bottle. Dark brown almost black with a small creamy tan head. Big aroma is bitter cocoa, licorice, molasses, black malt and alcohol. Flavor is roasty bitter black malt, licorice, chocolate, coffee and some alcohol presence. Fullish body with a soft, slick mouth feel. This one is very strong and bitter, lots of dark black malt. I’m usually not a fan of black licorice but it works pretty good in this one.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 mnurda (959) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - APR 22, 2013
Draft sample at the public house in Las Vegas. First taste was very surprising. Took a couple of sips to embrace the licorice root molasses etc A fantastic beer.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 marcus (5011) - Sacramento, California, USA - APR 12, 2013
Bottle from Belmont Station. Pours near black with a decent tan head and a sweet treacle aroma. There is a hearty dark molasses flavor with some anise and chocolate and a dry slightly bitter finish. The alcohol is well-hidden, though there is a pleasant warming trail.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 swanmann (469) - Norman, Oklahoma, USA - APR 9, 2013
From the bottle purchased at Squatters back around Christmas: Pour is black and oily with lush, well sustained tan foam. Aromas or caramel, chocolate, coffee, booze and some smokiness. It’s sweet, but not overly, thick and slick. Tastes of chocolate, caramel and coffee with just a hint of warmth. VERY smooth. It doesn’t seem a pungent and cloying as other imperial Russian stouts... I have to say well done.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 50belair (1335) - Florida, USA - APR 9, 2013
Bottle. Dark brown pour with a mocha head. Wonderful roasted malt and chocolate aromas. Good body. Sweet and smooth with caramel chocolate, molasses, expresso, and dark roasted malt notes. Good mouthfeel. A very nice imperial stout.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Wordsworth (85) - Austin, Texas, USA - APR 3, 2013
Pours black with a tan head that lingers. Great lacing that clings to the glass. Smells of rich chocolate, malts and espresso. Delicious aroma. Strong char and roasted chocolate flavor up front with milk, coffee and dark malt. So so tasty and smooth. Great stout, though lacking the large ashy char flavor of Russian Imps.
