Bottle at Beer Bar SLC. Dark brown pour with a disappearing brown head. Light aroma of sweet malt. Flavor is bolder with some peat smoke, spice and molasses. Nice overall.

Bottle. Pours clear reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma is pretty weak but I get a little toffee, earth, bread. Taste is sweet malt, a little peat if I use my imagination. Sweet caramel in the finish. A decent Scottish ale.

Bottle. Dark orange-amber pour with a small white head. Not tons of aroma, malty with some toffee. Flavour is sweet malts, toffee, pretty earthy, with a touch of hops. I expected some solid smoky peat flavour here, but none really came through. Perhaps a fresher bottle would provide more of that flavour.

Very deep copper, clear, tan head. Aroma of nutty and toasty malt, a little toffee, grainy notes. Flavor: malt-forward with lots of toasty, grainy and nutty malt, the smoke malt character is much stronger in the flavor than in the aroma and is fairly prominent. Finish is grainy and smoky.

On tap at Squatters in SLC. Medium red, clear, slight white head. Aroma was toffee malt and smoke. Flavor matched. Finish was marred by a rather phenolic rubber note that you can get sometimes with peaked malts, or even from the yeast used in a lot of Scottish ales. A bit off.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2014 5.6 ABV (older notes were from the 4% draft version): Sweet malt flavor; a little caramel malt. Subtle peat smoke in the aroma; more in the flavor--a good amount, not too much. Subtle yeast fruit and herbal/spicy hops.
Nice peat smoked flavor. It’s prominent at first; less so the more I drink. Pretty well balanced with some caramel/sweet malt flavor -- although a little more "English" malt character probably wouldn’t hurt.

On draft at the downtown brewery. Amber with a small head. Served on the cold side. Out of balance, the peat smoked malt dominates. There is a solid caramel/sweet malty note. Some fruity esters. I would like to see less peat malt and more yeast character. In the end, was not holding my interest.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a red/copper color with a medium white head. The aroma is sweet metallic peat, very light. The flavor is very dominated by peated malt; dry, grainy, earthy, not really smoky as much as rich earthy metallic peat. Quite dry. Interesting, not much balance.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy amber with a medium sized foamy off-white head and some lacing
Aroma: Light smokiness and floral
Taste: Peat malts, grainy, caramel with a smokey finish
Light body with just the right amount of smokiness to make it tasty. Nice.
